Meet Anthony Jones: Visual Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I have a lot of habits that I feel helped me get to the point that I am at right now. Habits that I feel helped me succeed the most were change, failure, and growth. I will elaborate because I know you are probably thinking well how can a single word be a habit. Change is something that I try to incorporate into my process of living as much as possible. When we take the time to change our perspective on what we feel is normal, we remove ourselves from a resistant state. Accepting things that may be uncomfortable to us will, in the end, open us up and push us past the fear of failure. Growing up my father instituted a saying around our household that stated ’90 or above’ , this saying was eventually plastered all of the house so my siblings and I could see it as a reminder for how we should carry ourselves through school and on. This saying bled into many other areas of my life and when I began to generate ideas I always wanted to make sure those ideas were perfect ideas, 90 or above. Once I got to art school ideas didn’t have to be perfect, you just had to be able to explain your perspective and its value. “Fail often. Fail fast.” a quote from The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman. Failure is something that I have come to be one with. The more I can fail throughout the process of ideation, the more feedback I am able to receive on what is not working. Once you understand the problem, you can easily find a solution. Can’t be afraid to fail along the way. Our ability to change perspectives and fail on those new ideas, forces us to grow. I have made growth a habit in an age where maximizing our growth as human beings is just one distraction away from remaining stagnant.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel that asking myself what sets me apart from others is extremely tough to answer, I don’t know how to be and do anything outside of myself. If I do not feel passionate about the ideas that come to exist, then I do not even bother entertaining anything outside of what makes me passionate. I find it slightly amusing to ask oneself ‘how did you get to where you are professionally’ I haven’t even made the mark I intend on making in the creative community, so in my eyes I accept that I have made strides, but just as I have made strides in the past, there are a lot more strides to go in the future. There will always be another step so I guess to answers the question directly, I have gotten to this space by taking things one step at a time and remaining in the present moment. Every person on this planet could probably write a book about the lessons that were learned along the way of one’s journey. The first page in my book would reference a Steve Jobs quote, “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.” I would like to let the world know, My name is Anthony Jones & I am art. I am design. I am creativity. There are no limits to what you can do in this world. Each and every person that reads this holds more value than they could ever imagine.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I personally don’t do much hanging out unless I am spending time with family. What I find as fun is spending time in nature, finding spots to hike and ultimately being in my most natural state. Sweetwater Creek, Kennesaw Mountain, High Falls, Cloudland Canyon, or even take a trip to the next state to hike.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I want to shoutout my family, they deserve a ton of credit for always being there. I also want to mention a book that was introduced to me by my grandfather, The War of Art by Steve Pressfield. This book never goes back on the bookshelf and I try to recommend it to everyone I come in contact with.
