We had the good fortune of connecting with Anonymous Da Band and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anonymous Da, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
We pursued music as a career because we grew up in it and we have a lot of family members in the business who are world class professionals. We also really enjoy the camaraderie and developing our skills together.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Known predominately for our smooth, urban jazz sound, we are Anonymous Da Band, a multi-talented group of four guys in our 20’s with a synergistic approach to music. The special thing about our band is the overwhelming humble spirit that surrounds us-hence the name Anonymous. Each of us is a master of our own instrument and we come together in perfection to share our talents. Members of the band are: Langston Michael on sax, Xavier Jones on bass, Xavier Davis on keys and Justice Michael on drums. Our style of music is progressive jazz fusion.

We have performed around the southeast for various benefits, social events, and festivals including the Atlanta Jazz Festival and the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. We were also selected to perform at Prince’s, Paisley Park in the first Musicology Battle of the Bands. We currently have two albums out- The Odyssey and Foreign Matter, which are on all streaming platforms; some songs are being played on our local jazz station, WCLK 91.9 in Atlanta. Additionally, we also opened shows for the likes of Najee, Chrisette Michele, Maysa Leak, and Pieces of a Dream and other top jazz performers.

Being in such a competitive industry, we have learned to stay true to ourselves and let our gifts and unique sound distinguish us from our peers.

We want the world to realize that you don’t have to conform to what’s popular in order to be successful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, we would naturally focus on the best music spots in ATL. We would first take them to the Havana Cigar Lounge every other Thursday where our drummer hosts a music jam session! Some other good spots are TenATL in East Atlanta, the Southern Feed Store, Buteco.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to shout out a variety of people who have been here to support us, including our parents, WCLK radio station, keyboardist Phil Davis, drummer Sonny Emory, trumpeter Melvin Miller, Clark Atlanta University’s legendary James Patterson and the entire Atlanta music community!
