We had the good fortune of connecting with Annelise Udoye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annelise, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve been passionate about film since I was a child. To me, there are no rules or structure to one’s creativity. The capability of telling a story in the way that you want to is what drove me to pursue a career in film. No one can tell you it’s wrong, there are no limits to storytelling- it’s all a matter of perspective.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d say my optimism sets me apart from others. I think in this industry, it’s easy to succumb to our failures but it’s important to be optimistic about things. It’s important feed your brain with positive thoughts and reassurance. I believe what we put out into the world we’ll only attract so it’s good to be optimistic.

One of the things I’m most proud about is obtaining my LLC, I’m a first generation business owner. It’s not easy and I’m still learning but the continuous support from the people I have around me is what allows me to keep going. My work-life balance is one of the many challenges I’ve faced. It is hard to be able to maintain both. I’m also a freelancer who works primarily on their own so it can get really hard. wearing all the hats..

I want the world to know that it’s more than just pursuing your dreams, it’s about being passionate and driven. I’m a strongly believer that if you put your mind to something, it will happen. I’ve learned to keep moving; accept failure as lessons and accomplishments as milestones.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the city, I’d definitely take us to Papi’s Cuban Restaurant in Atlanta. I love cuban food, and the food there is amazing.

There’s a bar in decatur called SOS Tiki a bar, we’d definitely go there for a couple drinks. Brunch at Suite Lounge is always a vibe; good music, food and hookah.

We’d definitely have to have a night out so Tongue & Groove is the spot! The club has two dance floors and all around good music.

I love going to the movies, that’s probably my favorite thing to do so we’d definitely do it right and go to IPIC.

There so many other places, those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents and my sisters played a huge role in my career. They saw things in me that I didn’t see. They’ve pushed me to come out of my comfort zone, talked me out of self doubt and continued to support me in my career. If I weren’t surrounded by such supportive friends and family, I’m not sure where I’d be.
