We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Reuss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anne, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
“You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero

This book ROCKED my world! How you frame your thinking has a cosmic impact on how you phrase things, approach your work, and ultimately, what type of situations you attract. My career took an unbelievable turn in 2021 when Marvel Studios reached out about a personal training contract in Atlanta. I remember the days of writing about Iron Man for philosophy class in class, dressing up as Echo Marvel Character (the same show I worked on!) one Halloween in my early 20’s, and having my website be the same red as Marvel’s logo. When the person saw my “Contact Me” box – requiring you to put your name, email, and…the final question….”Your Superhero Alias” she said she knew it was it. Put out the energy you want to attract, my sparkly humans!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wanting to be strong didn’t stop this Deaf woman from hiring a trainer….but when I realized I was coaching others to COACH me more clearly, I decided to become a trainer herself and introduce a coaching style to cut through the noise

One of my proudest moments is having had a contract with Marvel Studios. Upon completing the contract in August 2022, I have been traveling around the country doing 1:1 virtual & in-person for high level clients empowering them live a live where movement brings them joy, freedom, tethers them to resilience, and they crave more of it.

While I’m doing this, I’m setting an example for better accessibility in fitness.

There is still a lack of representation of diversity in the Deaf/HoH aspect and lack of inclusion both in gyms and popular fitness apps. By lack of inclusion, I want to world to know I’m not talking about providing us closed captions or subtitles or written notes. There are so many factors that influence a person’s ability to process and retain new information in strength training:
– How loud or distracting is the music? Is there another way to hype up the person without saying LISTEN TO THIS PLAYLIST!
-Is there different angles being shown by the trainer?
– When will the trainer stop constantly talking so the person can process the movement and learn?
– What will the person use to motivate themselves if they can’t hear the music?
– And so on.

We know fitness rewards us with so many things from preventative medicine, empowerment, longevity, confidence, literal strength and boosts mental health. Fitness helps you believe in yourself.

It is FREEING.

When fitness pros are inclusive, we can make it the reps, the sets, the sweat, the hard work a shared language. Movement is the great equalizer. It doesn’t matter what background you come from, what your identify or gender is, what culture you represent.

Everyone deserves that tool to make them free and wild and strong.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

#5 VIRGINIA HIGHLANDS
– I have spent so many afternoons feeling peace and joy just walking around the Highlands. There is an adorable, independent book store I stop in and read all the recommendations.
– You’ll find the finest butcher & produce here – Kinship Butcher & Sundry. Their coffee, in the same building, is mind-blowing.
– Not enough caffeine like me, You can stop at Perc, also in the same area, for bubblegum pink decor that brightens your senses for a delicious pastry and coffee mocktails.

#5 GNARLY WORKOUT
– Get a sweet workout at a very legit gym called Urban Body Fitness. Movie Stars have trained there, and its easy to see why. If you’re a serious fitness enthusiast, you’ll enjoy the wide variety of equipment and the cleanliness.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My CLIENTS! Their commitment – and the fact they value what I have to teach – get me fired up every day. It’s an honor to be part of their journey from stuck to UNSTOPPABLE. They have stuck through my changes as I grow and scale my business, and we’ve become closer, and part of my travels is to build that relationship with them, to help them see living healthy can be a lifestyle, fun, sustainable, and not a chore on the calendar. Their belief and investment in me is electrifying and fuels my motivation to keep growing.
