We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Ngugi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anne, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised Kenya, lived in Boston for 11 years and moved to Atlanta during the pandemic. Coming from an African household with a single mother impacted who I am today. My mother worked around the clock when we first moved from Kenya, my siblings became my responsibility therefore I did not have much of a childhood. This made me responsible extremely Mature and resilient.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
wematerialgirls is my online boutique. Ever since I can remember I’ve always loved clothes. I’ve always gotten compliments on how I dressed. During the pandemic I decided to start my website selling womens clothing and home decor. I believe what sets me apart is that I don’t sell anything I wouldn’t wear. Every article is picked by me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop would be food, Divans has the best lamp chops in town. Next stop would be a lounge get some drinks and hookah listen to good music and end our night at Onyx. The day after we would hike at Stone Mountain and have brunch at Cultivate on Howell mill Rd. Of course we would check out the High museum and Trap museum. The mall is always a good stop, this would be a chance to shop and meet people also. I would end the trip with a picnic at the park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother is my hero. Greatest role model and a phenomenal woman. She’s taught me how to be selfless, kind and business minded.
