Meet Anne Mullenax | Owner of Doodle Pies

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Mullenax and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anne, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I once viewed balance as how my day was broken up. Being a stay at home mom led to more flexibility in my schedule then Eric’s. He had the corporate job with the demands of being over-worked and I kept up with the kids and the house. I believed that was balance from my perspective. Last year, the year we opened our brick and mortar, began my journey of redefining balance. I smirk at the phrase that travels through my head,,, ” blood, sweat and tears”. It took all three for me as I learned in the most beautiful way that “balance” had nothing to do with me or my day. Days at Doodle Pies are stroked with meeting the most amazing people and working along side others who share in the hard-work to make pie and serve customers. Balance is more related to people and purpose then how I partition my day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Doodle Pies brand and story starts off with us. I’m the wife to the guy behind the idea. Everyone asks,” What’s a Doodle Pie”
A Doodle Pie is a personal size sweet pie that you get to “doodle” or create your own flavors and we cook it in 4-6 minutes. When you come in you first decide what fruit filling you want, then you choose from a selection of add-in’s that get cooked in your pie. After it cooks you then select toppings. An example is a Cherry pie with the add-ins of cream cheese and granola, or an apple pie with the add- ins of caramel sauce and walnuts, topped with your hearts desire of toppings. Elevate the experience of your hot pie with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Our menu also includes savory options too. Chicken pot pie, Smoked Beef Brisket, or Meatball Marinara. All cooked in minutes. Personal sized quiche is another savory option. You decide what you want in your quiche and we cook it in minutes. Everything is personal size and cooked as you wait. You can either dine in or take it to go. We love when people sit and stay awhile.
I tell people that is was the nine years of my bad cooking that motivated Eric to be the cook for the family. Of course it was not my intention to do this, but it worked out perfectly. He would come home from a long day of work and still want to cook. I guess the questions could be, ” Was her cooking that bad, or did he love cooking that much?” I believe it was passion all along. It was March of 2021 that we agreed to take this idea and pursue it. Eric quit his corporate job and we dove straight into developing and testing our product. We began at farmers markets to see if our friends and family were really telling us the truth. Were our little pies as good as they thought they were? The public said yes, and now here we are with our first brick and mortar in Roswell Ga.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nature all the way. We moved from Middle Ga to Buford, GA right before Covid hit and nature was where we explored. My nature itinerary would be as follows. Indian Seats at Sawnee in Cumming. Laurel Ridge Trail Loop by Lake Lanier, Amicalola Falls in Dawsonville, and if you are able, walk it from the bottom and feel your heart beating in your head. Gibbs Garden in Ball Ground when the daffodils bloom, and if you want to see the most adorable dogs go to Sims park in Suwanee on a rainy day and see the raincoats on all the pups. If your looking for interesting conversations then ask people what their passions are.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jesus is who get’s my Shoutout. He loved me enough to wait on my “Yes”. Several years ago I had an encounter that forever changed my life. Fear kept me from saying YES, and now faith has silenced the “No’s”
