We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Swanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, how do you think about risk?
As a young married couple, we moved away from our families in the north Atlanta area to forge our own path and live in a city that had a lot of career opportunities for both of our industries on the coast. After a few years in Savannah we were ready to start a family, and I wanted to stay home with our children while they were small. Being a mother and owning my own company was always my goal. Starting any business requires taking a leap of faith and assuming various risks. You have to make sure you save up enough capital to leave stable employment, navigate uncertainties and competitive pressures, and be confident to make calculated decisions about allocating resources and taking on debt to fund growth and expansion. You’ve got to manage cash flow, do market research, develop contingency plans, and hire the right people in order to build a cohesive team. Risk is an inherent part of entrepreneurship, and it can be a heavy load to bear, but to me it’s all worthwhile. I love the strategy of it all.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were to spend a day with me in Atlanta, we would wake up early and fit in a morning session at SPENGA for 60 minutes of spin, weights, and yoga to reset our mind and body. Then, grab our caffeine at Brash Coffee, explore the Atlanta History Museum or the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, do some window shopping, and have lunch at Le Colonial. During the afternoon, we’d head to the pool or lake to relax for a few hours, and we’d wrap the evening up at Rumi’s Kitchen at the Avalon. The cuisine, service, and atmosphere there is the best. A longer stay would probably include a spa visit and a hike up into the mountains somewhere. Perhaps a winery tour. I have a laid-back demeanor, but I am an active adventurer!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today, and Swanson Signature Events would not be where it is today, without my business partner, Renee Peterson. Renee has a pursuit of excellence that propels us to do great things, and she is a natural born leader and educator. Continuous education is something we are passionate about with our team of event planners.
