We had the good fortune of connecting with Anjari Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anjari, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from the peach state, Georgia. More specifically I’m from Rockmart Georgia, Northwest of Atlanta. Other metro areas have been part of my upbringing also but, I call Rockmart home. Being a person of African descent and staying in Georgia has given me a unique experience. I’ve been lucky enough to experience the concentration of my people’s culture, other native and indigenous cultures, and an overall diversity. Being from Georgia (the dirty south) I’ve met caring, kind hearted people who act and interact out of love and others who act out of hate. This has shown me the duality of life itself and has prepared me to be a strong, level-minded, conscious black man who has seen the good and bad in all types of people. This upbringing has made clear to me what my purpose is and how to achieve this purpose. It’s not easy down here. It can make you or break you. I’ve decided to use it as a foundation, it made me who I am and it will shape who I become.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is genuine, vulnerable, and authentic. Keeping it real has always been a way of living for me. Some people have a misconception of what that means though. Being real means being you, unapologetically. I’m proud of myself for pursuing my dream in the first place; because that alone isn’t easy by any means. I’m excited for when the time comes where my message and voice is heard amongst the population of this planet. I’m excited for when my words spread positivity, truth knowledge and high vibrations; all while keeping it raw and real. This authenticity and drive has brought me to where I am today professionally. With that being said I’m nowhere near where i want to be in my career. However, I’ve learned along the way that this is a process and I’ve learned to love the process; because one day I won’t be able to do some of the things that I may be able to do today. So, I have learned to make peace with the moment. I haven’t always been like this though. I’ve hit rock bottoms, and this journey has changed me time and time again. I want the world to understand this and to come along with me during this transformational journey. This way people witness first hand, how far a little hope, faith, and potential can take you in life. I want to show people they have the power to create their reality. I want to be a living expression of power and greatness, by being myself. Who knows, I could give you the courage and strength to be yourself by just being me. And the world needs a lot more of us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh you thinking about coming to the city? I like art so we got to stop by the High Museum of Art and The Trap Music Museum. Really we can just walk down the streets of Atlanta, we’re bound to see some hard art. After that we can hit up some food spots. I’m Plant based, so today you’re going to try something new. If you in the mood for some burgers we’ll definitely stop at Slutty Vegan. If you’re feeling fancy we can go to Life Bistro off of Sylvan Road. Some of the best black owned, vegan food you’ll taste anywhere. You’ve got to try their “Lobsta’ Mac and Cheese”. I’m a nature baby, so after that we can go to Piedmont Park or Cascade nature preserve. We’ll catch the sunrise and just chill with mother nature. After that we’ll go to Cascade skating rink to catch a vibe and get our workout for the day. After that… I don’t know. What’s the move?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I Know how the power of community, support, and encouragement can empower and motivate a person. I know this because of the love and support I received throughout my 20 years. So, I want to thank the people in my family, the ones who I’ve called friend/brother/sister, and even the strangers. I want to thank and shoutout anyone and everyone who has shown support and has truly believed in me, my goals, my dreams, and my vision. You know who are, because the real are gone feel it and the fake will reveal it. Love doesn’t lie!
