We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Range and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anita, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My name is Anita Range. My friends call me Nini. My story is much different than most. I grew up. In one of the roughest areas on the Westside of Detroit. My mother has been a drug addict all of my life. She served 8 years in prison also. As you can imagine not having my mother was one of the hardest things I had to overcome. I endured every kind of abuse you can imagine. I never let it stop me. All my life all I wanted to do was break the generational curses. So I got a job at age 14. I graduated college with a Bachelors degree in Psychology. I worked all through high school under Rev. Wendell Anthony, NAACP. Companies such as Nordstrom Comcast Verizon and Att. Also state government jobs. I’ve lived in both Georgia and Tampa. I’ve made good money always being the number one person in the companies. Through the income I’ve made I’ve secured two home both are currently rented out. I’ve learned my passion is for designing and making things that were once nice beautiful again. Working for companies has made me miss a lot as single parent with no family support at all. So I started my own embroidery company Precious Embellishments. I felt like a prisoner working for these companies. I couldn’t be there for my child how I wanted to. So I invested in myself. My company Precious Embellishments offers logo printing and design by embroidery vinyl and bling. We offer bulk pricing to accommodate newer fashion designers or start up businesses who may not have a lot of money. I needed a fresh start so I moved back to Georgia the land of opportunity to expand my business. However it’s been tough because I lost a lot of my Detroit Clientele moving here. However I am ready to do the work in order to leave a legacy for my baby.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My proudest 2 moments in my career was breaking generational curse of being the only one to Graduate from College. My second proudest moment was purchasing 2 homes. I want to shout out Booby Daniel for wearing my custom jacket on Love and Hip Hop. I appreciate you. I think my biggest challenge is marketing. I know social media is the best way to advertise however I’m not having much luck on there. So I am being creative in getting the word out the old fashion way. Mailers word of mouth and passing flyers out. I’ve learned to get everything in writing. People usually don’t know what they want and not having it in writing has caused issues in the past. My Brand is Mahogany Honey. Which I was motivated to design this brand for brown girl’s who struggled or struggled with self esteem. To promote self love and being happy in their natural. My other brand is Stack and pray which is to accumulate wealth and pray to keep it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ll be honest I’m pretty new here I’m not sure where I’d go. Due to covid I haven’t explored much.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter is my biggest fan and supporter. I know she is watching me and I refused to let her down. Also I am apart of the Eastern Starz who support me no matter what. Also my grandmother and grandfather who took me in at age 11 raised me and pushed me to be the best me. My grandmother just passed due to Covid. I love her and miss her.
