We had the good fortune of connecting with Angell Troxler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angell, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Honestly, creativity has always found a way to me. It wasn’t until I became an educator that I realized that it indeed is one of my gifts. The more I poured into it the more it multiplied. I started a blog (www.lifeofanangell.com) and doing some local modeling and slowly got bored just taking pretty pictures, but found myself intrigued by the magic behind the lens. During the pandemic I was encouraged by one of my photographer friends to really explore and create…. And that’s how I started my photography business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an educator by profession. I’ve been teaching for over a decade. For the longest time I struggled with being anything more than a teacher. It wasn’t until I was encouraged by a fellow educator to pursue my other passions that I began to branch out. I quickly realized that blogging didn’t take away from my teaching it actually provided an authentic opportunity to show my scholars I “practice what I preach” and also write and do other things besides just teach.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, if my friends were coming to town food would most certainly be the focal point! We would start with Sunday funday with drinks on the rooftop of Bohemian hotel. It would lend itself to a foot tour of downtown with stops at all the touristy spots. (Pineapple fountain, the Battery, and Rainbow row.) I recently had dinner at Tempest and am dying to make it back so I’d definitely make it a stop. Checking out one or all of the beaches would also make the list. Oh, and if I could make it happen, I’d link up with my friend KJ (founder of Black Food Friday) and have him take us on a food tour!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a huge shout out to the Charleston creative scene in general, but specifically to two of my friends and mentors: Rashad Moultrie and Humble Lyons. These two have poured into me, encouraged me, created with me, and even let me borrow gear before I could afford to get my own. They are living examples of collaboration over competition!
