We had the good fortune of connecting with Angeliz Bruno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angeliz, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Through my first pageant in Central florida for Miss Florida – MTH I was discovered by a Talent agency called Legacy Talent Group after performing my Broadway piece from Ragtime. I quickly picked up gigs and acted through Central florida and observed the cast and crew on each set I attended. I realized one day as I sat in my room that I just didn’t want to be an actress I wanted to become part of the crew and learn how to develop a story and learn how to entertain the audiences not just to act in roles but also creating the stories creating the adventure creating the opportunities to give to other cast and crew. It was there and then that I decided to write my first horror script and participate in a local short film festival challenge with Orlando Independent Filmmakers. At the time I had lost my job and dropped out of college but I was still committed to producing my first film and learned everything off of YouTube! I signed up for Uber and drove every night and Day. I would sit in my car while waiting for riders and would start creating the filming schedule with my Assistant Director, scouting for filming locations and with every money I made I would put it towards the film, towards my cast and crew. With being on a strict budget in my personal life After losing my job I learned to also stay within my filming budget. I was persistence. With this dedication I learned that this is my passion and continued to write more Films and produce more films till today thus creating my own filming production “Abruno.Films.” It was not easy starting the business especially in an industry that’s mostly known to be dominated by Male directors and producers. As a lady filmmaker I find it challenging and exciting to be a part of a creative entertainment industry. I have written, directed and produced 4 of my own films (Covington, The Social Experiment, The Last Flame out and Operation Blow) that have been awarded and nominated in international film festivals and locally in Georgia. I’ve seen my films on the big screens at these film festivals and hope to one day produce the series of these films with big productions such as CW, Netflix, Hulu, Disney and Freeform. I can’t wait to share my next series that will be written by myself and my partner Andrew Gueits called “Sinners.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a filmmaker and writer has taught me that creativity is endless. There are no limits except the “The End” and even then, a new journey awaits.

To get to where I am now I had to make a lot of sacrifices. I lost sleep and even timed without eating a meal to afford props and stuff for set. I had to use my days off to spend on set designing and learning new ways of making my sets more efficient. I would make mistakes and would have to start over. I lost time that I could’ve used to spend with my family all to have everything ready for set. That’s called determination.

I can honestly say I’m proud of myself with how far I’ve come. Throughout the pandemic I faced my divorce but I also grew as a person and matured through my challenges. Every single bump, tear and endless nights of working helped me become the strong successful woman I am today. In this entertainment business. I will always continue to learn and grow.

I want the world to know that it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to set people and things aside to work on yourself and do what you love. There’s always time in the day to do what you love even if it’s one hour. Watch the YouTube videos, watch the DIYs, go to school and learn! People told me that I wouldn’t make it far but i proved them wrong and continued to produce films, continued to pursue acting, to train in wrestling and learn stunts so that I can do work in front of the camera and behind the camera. The choice is yours to make.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would bring my friends to Walt Disney World, Universal, The clubs in downtown, the Springs we have in florida. Let’s not forget the theatre’s and entertainment we have in Downtown Orlando like the Dr.Phillips Theatre! We also have beautiful beaches and natural swamp lands.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my partner Andrew Gueits from Newnan Georgia! His endless love and faith in me has pushed me to never give up on myself especially when times were very tough and through the Covid-19 pandemic. My 2 older sisters Ruth Pagan and Geneliz Nieves for constant prayers and love and my family, friends and community in Orlando, Florida.
