We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Donnelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelica, how does your business help the community?
Through my business and my work, I have a strong passion for educating my clients and also providing an atmosphere where there is room for questions without any judgment. As much as societal standards have progressed in fighting stigmas regarding women’s bodies or overall appearance, I believe there is still so much more room for growth. There’s always a seed of comparison that has been planted in the back of our minds by societal pressures, especially regarding our bodies and I like to think I am contributing to fight the stigmas or those negative thoughts just by being able to have open conversations with my clients about their bodies, skin, etc. I feel like through my work I am able to help educate clients on subjects that might seem a little “taboo” or uncomfortable. Whether it be about how to care for their skin in the intimate areas or help educate them on products to target their certain concerns without feeling ashamed, or just being able to make them feel comfortable in their own skin and help give them the confidence that everyone deserves. I love being able to help women gain their confidence back through my work!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Hey Honey Wax and Beauty, a small, individually owned and managed business specializing in full body waxing and sugaring services! I believe there are a few aspects that set me apart from other businesses. I pride myself on my professionalism, organization and efficiency in how I run and conduct business. I also have such a love and passion for waxing and sugaring but I believe my underlying passion for skincare, anatomy, product ingredients, and education plays a part in what makes my clients experiences feel elevated. I love being able to help clients target their specific skin concerns, educate them on proper aftercare and educate them on the importance of product ingredients as well. I don’t believe in getting clients in and out at a rapid pace, I make it a point to provide efficient services as well as be able to answer any questions or even just be able to have a chat with my clients without them feeling rushed. At Hey Honey Wax and Beauty, I guarantee you will experience a warm, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere where any questions are welcome!
As far as challenges go, yes, there have been plenty! Luckily, I have my little circle of emotional support systems around me and God who keeps me grounded. I’m blessed to have the extra support systems that I do, the ones who keep me level headed when I feel like my head might pop off during those stressful moments. The most important thing for me during those times when challenges arise is to just breathe, take a moment to step back and look at the issues as a whole and figure out a solution, because freaking out is just going to make it worse in my personal experience.
There’s nothing some deep breathing and some good prayers can’t help in my book!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you want to stay pretty local, I have a few favorite spots! If you make a little drive to Covington, GA, The Social Goat Tavern is one of my absolute favorite spots. They have an upstairs with a balcony that overlooks the square and they always have live music or some type of event going on. It’s such a fun and relaxed atmosphere, and I am a sucker for any type of outdoor seating so being able to look out over the city adds bonus point in my book! Local to McDonough, there’s a small Mexican restaurant called Los Portales, and I don’t even know where to begin to describe them. My husband and I have been going there for a few years now and I truly don’t eat at any other Mexican restaurant because of them. They have the best food, hands down! – Besides their amazing dishes, the people there are what really elevates the experience. All of the employees are so tight knit, it feels like a little family. Like you’ve been invited to someone’s home to eat dinner. Over the years, the owner and employees have turned into our friends and a couple have turned into my clients as well! Overall, their dishes are the best hands down and they are all such amazing and kindhearted people behind it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh, I don’t even know where to begin! I have been so blessed to have had so much support from my friends and family, but, especially my husband. He has been my biggest cheerleader throughout my journey of becoming a business owner. He gave me that push that I truly needed and he believed in me before I even started to believe in myself! Without him giving me the push to take that first leap of faith, I’m not sure how long it would have taken me!
Aside from my loved ones giving me the support that I couldn’t be any more thankful for, I have to give all of my credit to God. I truly believe that he has placed me exactly where I am meant to be. Through trial and error, “dream jobs” that fell through, and ideas that just didn’t work out, looking back I can blatantly see how He has paved my path for me and I couldn’t be any more thankful.
Funny story, when I first enrolled in esthetics school, I was determined to become a medical aesthetician, hopefully working in a MedSpa or Dermatology office and getting my Laser practitioner license. After I got my esthetics license, I actually wasn’t even old enough to apply for my state laser license. I still made the effort to apply for medical offices and medspas, but ultimately they never led anywhere. Once the pandemic hit and we all went on lockdown, I really took this time to think about what I wanted to do with my career, I felt very lost. I began praying and trying to gain some type clarity on where I needed to be. One night, I remember praying to God to “PLEASE GIVE ME A BIG FAT SIGN”. Yep, just like that. And sure enough He did. My boss from my waxing job from two years prior texted me out of the blue, two days later asking if I knew anyone who needed a waxing job. I obviously took the opportunity and that is when my love for waxing and sugaring truly blossomed and let’s just say, the rest is history!
