We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Humphrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was simple. I wanted to make money without having to work for someone for the rest of my life. Who actually enjoys going to work everyday, to a job that absolutely hate? From a young age, I made a conscious decision that’d I’d make a living doing what I love to do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

The things that keep me busy professionally would be doing hair, selling products, playing piano & singing at my church on Sundays, along with producing & writing music during the week. Hair wise, I do a variety of styles, specializing in locs, cornrows, and hair cuts. Depending on the client and condition of their hair, the service usually takes between 1-3 hours. Along with selling hair products, I have to keep up with restocks, filling my bottles, putting labels on, packing orders, and keeping my online store up to date. Some days I just sell the bottles, other days I’m the photographer. Lol. I’ve been playing piano at my current church for almost 2 years. It’s definitely been a blessing playing for them and being able to minister. During the week, I produce trap/r&b/soul/live music type beats. If the beat is fire, best believe I’m writing some fire lyrics behind it.

Amongst everything, I love to create, whether it be music, hair products, a new hairstyle, or even a painting. Music is definitely what I’m most proud of but, it’s also the thing I critique the most. Getting to where I am now took years of hard work, perseverance, dedication, patience, and most importantly faith in God. Was it easy? Of course not. Anything worth having is going to take hard work and will test your limits.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooo. So if my best friend came to visit, we’re easily hitting up Roses Caribbean Restaurant for some bussin oxtails, maybe go the rooftop bar for some drinks, and visit the river walk downtown. My view of something fun to check out would be a dope art/music museum and anything with an arcade or amusement park. I’m a big kid at heart lol.
