We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursue an artist career because I recognize that I’m always creating. My life is my art. In the beginning stepping into the pursuit I wanted to have autonomy over my time but more than anything I have a passion for expressing myself visually. A creative career allows me to tap into imagination and emotions, as well as offer a unique perspective that resonates with people.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The answer to the question what sets me apart from others is simple… no one is me. No one can do what I do the way that I do it. I don’t say that arrogantly, it’s just a fact and in fact I might not be the best at something but still it can only be done the way I do it. As an artist understanding that and leaning into that has been helpful and it has not been easy to get to that knowing. I’ve overcome challenges of self doubt, imposter syndrome, lack & limitation. Honestly, some days those things still show up in my mental which is why staying grounded, meditation, yoga and an active lifestyle doing things are important because they help me to overcome the negative thoughts. Those untruths.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way have been to relax and allow things to come as they may. I’ve learned that it’s not all about forcing things or trying to make things happen. When I surrender is when opportunities present themselves the most.
I want the world to know that my brand is a place for the lovers and for the conscious people. It’s a reminder to the world to forget the how because the how is not your concern.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d find out where DJ hourglass is spinning. Hit up rocksteady or Marcus Bar and grill.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout all of the amazing organizations I work with or have worked with such as SisterSong, Southerners on New Ground(SONG), Highlander Research and Educational Center, M4bL(movement for black lives)
