We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Bowman, MHS, CMLC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thoughts were how to bring my God given gifts to the people struggling with life on life’s terms. Some of which have no guidance in their struggle so I want to be their beacon in the night.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Counselor with a Master Degree in Human Services and 21 years of experience with my areas of expertise being in Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse, Trauma Informed Care, Crisis Intervention, At Risk Youths, LGBTQ, Women’s Issues and Evidenced Based Practices. I am also a Certified Master Life Coach with my areas of expertise being in Life Coaching, Happiness Coaching and Professional Coaching.

My education and experience came from traditional institutions and life itself. I came from the streets of South Jamaica Queens and the Lower East Side of Manhattan. I was involved in the great crack epidemic that plagued our communities. Fortunately after years of struggling with my own emotions from a dysfunctional family and lifestyle I made some changes. My biggest obstacle was myself and my thought process. I had to train myself to think differently and see situations for what they were and not what I wanted them to be. I had to remove the distorted thinking I was raised with and become the forward thinker I was created to be.

The lessons I learned along the way was:

1 I am responsible for my behavior, attitude and communication style.

2 I can not control other peoples behavior.

3 I am a product of God and no one can discredit or shame me without my permission.

4 Never act on impulse make informed decisions.

5 Live life like it’s golden because tomorrow is not promised. I would want the world to know. That Idyllic Life Coaching LLC is a heartfelt agency and exemplifies the core of my personality and magnifies my God given gifts of service to society.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to historical places such as the African American burial ground in downtown Manhattan, Elis Island, Statue of Liberty, etc, etc. I would also add a simple boat ride around the city and a great seafood dinner topped off with a poetry or jazz club.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My children and Uncle Ruben for giving me tough love and encouragement keeping me on my feet when I couldn’t stand on my own.

My siblings for believing in me and cheering me on when I wanted to give up.

My Mother for creating and instilling the word of God in me even when I strayed from the highlighted path.

Lastly my supervisors both good and bad for teaching me what and what not to do in my chosen field; so that I will never do harm to client or staff under any circumstances.

Most of all I would like to thank you for this opportunity to share who I am and what I do with your audience.
