We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Yvonne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If I never took any risks in my acting career I would have never had any accomplishments. Everyday I get up and try to navigate through my journey as becoming one of the best actresses in America by moving pass the fear of failure. Training and learning from other great artists who have gone before me and fulfilled their dreams is a must. I am constantly learning this art form and will forever be humbled by learning something new each day from it . If i’m the smartest person in a room full of students, I’m in the wrong room. It’s important to be challenged, broken and brought up again. It makes you stronger.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want to make the spectator see humanity when they look at my art, even if they just see it for a few minutes. I think that is what so amazing about actors; we can be artist without picking up a brush, and we can creatively build layers and depth in our characters. I started off as a visual artist before I even set foot on a stage and I think that’s what helped me understand how to connect to a role. If I can depict and reflect your emotion accurately with paint on a canvas then I know how to do it in a scene too.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
MLK’S birthplace is wonderful and historic place to see, so I make sure to take them there. I love nature also, so whenever I have friends visit the area we get some exercise hiking up Stone Mountain, once you are at the top its peaceful and rewarding. I love tacos so I always take a trip to bar taco for the delicious food and fun atmosphere. Atlantic city is another exciting spot to visit with live music on Sundays… its a great part of town to network, eat and hangout. I’m still learning a lot of the city and there is much I still have to explore.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to the Kansas City Film Festival for giving me a platform as host to connect with so many talented filmmakers and actors when I was just starting out in the business.
