Meet Angel Tru | Actor/Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Tru and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been a lover of all things art. Singing, writing, dancing, playing instruments—I started doing it all when I was really young, and it’s stayed at the center of my life ever since. Creating feels like second nature to me. I honestly couldn’t imagine a life where I wasn’t expressing myself through art in some way. Even if I weren’t being paid, I’d still be doing something creative every day. It’s not just a career, it’s how I connect, how I process, and how I find joy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of the work I’ve done so far as an unrepresented actor. Representation in the acting industry is crucial for visibility, and many actors struggle to book roles without agency support. While being signed to an agency is definitely one of my goals, I’ve managed to build a strong foundation on my own—booking roles in a short film, various commercials, a stage play, five feature films, and advancing as one of the top 15 contestants in the first-ever acting competition show. I worked hard for these opportunities, and I’m truly proud of what I’ve accomplished.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a foodie, first and foremost—and most of my friends are too—so we definitely spend a lot of our time eating and drinking. Some of my favorite restaurants in the city include The Consulate, which has a beautiful speakeasy vibe, a unique concept, and some of the most incredible food I’ve ever had; Poor Calvin’s, which is always delicious; and Two Urban Licks, a go-to spot that never fails me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I have to shout out my husband. He’s truly my biggest fan. Every time I take on a new project, he speaks life into it—and into me. His constant encouragement reminds me that I’m capable, even on the hard days.
Second, my mom. I get my hustle from her. She’s the one who taught me the value of hard work, and she didn’t raise a quitter. That drive and determination I carry with me is because of her example and her belief in me.
And third, my granny. Her resilience and perseverance are a guiding force in my life. She’s been through so much with grace and strength, and I carry her prayers and her spirit with me in everything I do.
