We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Frank and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Flint Michigan. I grew up with a young mother who gave birth to me on her 18th birthday. Although, she and my father were married for 7 years, he spent majority of my life incarcerated. I watched my mom work hard and use her talents to provide for me. She used to do hair, make prom dresses for people and had a 9 to 5. Witnessing her pushing through tough times with no complaints molded me into being a person that never gives up. I wanted to be successful when I grew up. I wanted to be the first in my family to graduate from a major university. I wanted to move out of Flint and do amazing things that my family could be proud of and I’ve been blessed to accomplish all of these goals.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve been a B2B sales professional mainly in the tech industry for 16 years and I started to feel like I was lacking fulfillment. I realized that although my finances were very good as an account executive, I wanted more out of my career. I’m a very creative person. I love beauty and self care products. I absolutely LOVE making people feel good about themselves and that is what I want to do every chance that I get, so I became a certified permanent makeup artist and began to venture further into the beauty industry.
I started to think about some of the issues that I’ve experienced in my self care routine and a big issue for me was finding the right skin care products for me. I’m very particular about what I use, because I have eczema and my skin can be unpredictable. The products that I tried either made my skin too dry or burned my skin, so I decided to launch my own product line that can work for a variety of skin types. I started researching skin care manufacturers in 2020 and started a business shortly after named Angel Face Cosmetics. I didn’t move forward with the business operations right away. I wanted to test the products extensively, which was time consuming and expensive.
During the process of starting my business, I’ve learned that you’re going to lose money while taking risks and that is okay. Everything will not always work out perfectly, and that is also okay. Take the lessons in your process and enjoy the ride! After four years of research and preparation, I’m super proud of the process, because I’m finally launching my Angel Face skin care line on April 1st!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love a good girls hang out! I’m not the best at creating itineraries. I’m more of a go with the flow and let the vibes lead us type of person lol. I would definitely do a late lunch at Eight Sushi, so that we can have our girls talk and catch up on life. We’d go shoe shopping at Saks at some point during the week and maybe catch a Hawks game. I love doing dinner and social time at MCK on Friday nights and maybe check out a day party at Whiskey Mistress on Sunday. If we decide to have a day of relaxation, we’d go to The Sole Spa in Buckhead.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my team that has been the battery in my back when I don’t always feel like working hard. People don’t always discuss the days in the life of an entrepreneur when we just don’t feel like doing anything. When I have those days where life is stressful, there are a hundred things on my to do list, I’m trying to find balance in being a good friend, family member and partner and become overwhelmed, my team is there with encouraging words and helping hands. I appreciate them so much!
