We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Vilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, what matters most to you?
My most important principle would be the “message” of what I put out into the world. I really care about the lasting effect of what the message could be! I see my creativity as an outlet to communicate with others globally so anything I create I’d like to know that it’s influencing or changing the world around me in a positive way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m mostly known as a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and actor. People will tell me I’m a one man band since I play multiple instruments and also have singing abilities. I recently acted in a movie that showcased at South by Southwest this year which was exciting! I’m always looking forward and want to perform better than how I did yesterday so I think the future is looking bright for me! Daily inspiration and motivation is always a challenge. I read a lot of biographies and love learning about people; seeing how their struggles relate to mine is inspiring and it motivates me to continue my journey. I want the world to know that I’m here to create positive impacts and to be a helping hand, whether its through music, film, or any other creative way!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like to go with the flow so plans are always subject to change! A typical evening would consist of dinner at Okiboru Ramen, followed by a live music event at either The Tabernacle, Aisle 5, or Terminal West! The next day would be spent outdoors hiking the East Palisades trail or riding bikes through the belt line and laying out at Piedmont Park! I’d wrap that day watching the sunset on the Hotel Clermont rooftop because the city skyline at dusk is gorgeous! The following day would be dedicated to something educational; either at the Museum of Puppetry arts or the Atlanta History Center; and lastly, If you’re into taking pictures I would take you around the midtown arts district to view and take photos of the architecture and street art/murals around Atlanta. I think this would be a solid visit! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my college George Mason University and my fellow peers who accompanied me in my journey! GMU was an amazing place to develop my leadership, creative, and entrepreneurial skills. I remember how difficult it was to pick a degree focus and they were more than willing to guide me in creating my own degree, one that made sense for what I was trying to do. I also would like to shout out the city of Atlanta, and all of the awesome people I’ve met here. I’m super thankful for this city embracing me with welcoming and open arms. I moved here nearly 3 years ago on a whim and did not know a single person when I came. Atlanta became such a big part of my life, growth, and development as a human being, entrepreneur, and creative! I’ve become close with a lot of people here who really believed in me and encouraged me to never give up even when times were hard. Thanks Atlanta! Much love here.
