We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew McCoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned was surround yourself with a positive crowd of friends and family members. There’s been a few times where I’ve felt like taking a “break” from photography due to personal life issues and having less faith in my work at times. My family and friends played a big role into pushing me continue with my career. Also I’ve learned to be consistent with my work to get more practice on my craft and experiment with test subjects that are not normally my expertise. Practice makes perfect.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photography mostly consists of street photography and mostly random images that catches my eye. I like to take shots of different elements instead of just sticking to just one for a good challenge.

I got to where I am professionally honestly by keeping my camera on me everywhere I go to stay consistent or if I’m driving somewhere around different places that stands out, I’ll make a note of the area or test subject and come back to it at a certain time of the day or night to get the shot and thats if I don’t happen to have my camera on me.

I wouldn’t say it was either to get where im at today I would say it’s been challenging. As far as balancing photography with my main job and being a parent. Whenever I have enough free time I just choose to rest mainly along with normal life routines but i try to make time for photography just so I won’t lose my touch.

A lesson that my uncle taught me along the way that I’ve learned was that I’m not gonna be with satisfied with EVERY picture that I take which is very true. I’ve taken so many pictures of certain subjects and when it comes down to editing them I’ll most likely like 3 out of the 20 pictures that I took. Only a good few bit of those pictures will truly stand out.

What I would want the world know about me is that I love what i do and I love getting creative and plan certain types of pictures images in my head and bring them to life. I don’t expect everybody to like my pictures but I want them to notice that I enjoy photography with a passion.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok so the type of places i like eat are basically anywhere I can get salmon or steak lol those are my go to foods to eat. Anything like Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster, Olive Garden etc. I’m not too picky I’ll eat anywhere as long as I can enjoy it with a sweet tea and a water with lemon. I love visiting Atlanta with my friends we usually go do karaoke at a bar called moon dogs. We usually go to places where we can enjoy and be ourselves and the vibes are matched. We’re a good group of people to hang.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many people I would like to shoutout to. First of my family and friends who supported from the very beginning when I first decided to pick up a camera.

Shoutout to the GinTalk podcast crew that I’m apart of along with my friends from high school and college.

Shoutout to my uncles who are mainly my mentors that does photography. They always give me advice on how to perfect my craft and also even went out there way to buy me photography equipment to improve my work also lending me my first professional camera that I’ve ever used.

Shoutout to Co. Snapped with whom I’ve worked with before. They always show love on social media to my page and are very creative genuinely nice people

Shoutout to the people who asked me to do photoshoots and portraits of them. With them just asking me to do so, that meant a lot to me. They could’ve picked any other photographer in the city but they chose to ask me and I thank them so much for that.

Also shoutout to the man above who blessed me with this hidden talent that I or no one even knew I had.

Last but not least shoutout to my followers on Instagram. They show a lot of support whenever I post even though I know I flood their timeline with photos at times. I’ve interacted with a lot of talented photographers on there as well. I appreciate all the comments, likes, words of encouragement, and support from each and every one of them
