We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, what do you attribute your success to?
What is the most important factor behind your success?

Mindset. You can have great skill, unique ideas, and perfect timing, but without a strong mindset, you’ll never make the first step towards taking yourself seriously.

Starting a publication takes a lot of time and focus. It’s easy to give up when your dream is so big, and you find yourself at the bottom of a mountain of work.

It’s easy to dream out loud and tell everyone your goals, but your mindset is the driving force behind your work ethic.

I have a doers mindset. If you tell me it can’t be done in a day, I’ll do it in an hour. Lol

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Bacon Magazine is a publication dedicated to Black Women in business who bring home the bacon.

We are located in Los Angeles, CA, and cover profile stories, small businesses, and entrepreneurs in the US.

Our Sizzle Blog covers lifestyle and culture, career and money, business, and resources for Black Women to learn and grow their businesses.

Starting a magazine company is not easy. However, I don’t view it as challenging work because I love doing it. I know I don’t know everything, so my mindset is to absorb all the wisdom around me. When I view challenges that way, I always find a positive outcome.

We are a brand new publication, and within the first 30 days of launching our first issue, we were invited to our first Hollywood event. There I was able to meet actor and Director J. Mallory McCree, snowfall actress Angela Lewis, uncle Clifford from P Valley, and so many other stars who treated me graciously.

I saw how quickly things could change when you work hard and take your work seriously.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What’s the summertime without visiting the Santa Monica promenade?

We would make our way across the street to the pier and grab a hotdog on a stick and cherry lemonade.

Then make our way to the promenade for shopping, the movies, live entertainment, and giant board games in the street.

After that, we have to make our way to a Barnes & Noble because at the end of the day; we’re black girls that read!

I’m grabbing Vogue, Forbes, Essence, Seventeen, and Elle, along with a few good books for later.

We’d make our way down to Leimert park to Ackee Bamboo Jamaican food and order ox tail, rice and pea, a beef patty, and Kola Champagne. We are eating well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to Black Women in business; without them, there is no magazine. It’s their hard work, determination, and dedication that are driving our publication.
