We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Hard work, perseverance and confidence has contributed to my success. We all have our own unique style, and it’s important that an artist/designer express that style in their work. I’ve always liked bright colors, typography and lettering. I also have enjoyed adding texture into my work. Practicing my craft and experimenting with different techniques has also helped me to succeed.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I stay pretty busy working on hand lettered custom orders and freelance graphic design projects. I teach design courses as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would take them to Little Five Points. I love the creativity there. We could walk around and explore the different shops. Then for lunch, we’d head over to my favorite pizza place, Fellini’s. Later, we could head over to Ponce City Market (another favorite of mine) for some additional shopping and dinner. I adore the industrial space. Later in the week, we could check out some museums and then head over to Old Fourth Ward for some exercise. I always enjoy seeing so many different people out and about enjoying the city. We’d make a stop at Jeni’s ice cream. They have such great flavors! Towards the end of the week, we would make time for East Atlanta, and of course, take some photos of the great murals in that area. Then for a lunch break, we would have to eat at one of my favorite places, Poke Burri. Finally, we’d end the week with a concert at the Mercedes-Benz arena.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my loving supportive immediate and extended family, friends, and my design and illustration professors.
