Meet ANDRE SMITH | Music Hip-Hop Artist, Actor & Veteran

We had the good fortune of connecting with ANDRE SMITH and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ANDRE, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
One of the best decisions I have ever made other than deciding to work for myself was taking the role as “Gatti Bang” when Michael Steven Paul approved of my audition monologue and offered the role to me. This role has tapped into something I never knew was inside me and now I am an actor in what I truly believe will become the number one rated crime series of all time. So this was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from the rest is my faith in God along with my determination, consistency and perseverance just to name a few examples of my work ethic. As an artist people seem to be drawn to me as a person first and then my art. This way they really understand where my talent comes from especially when they realize my faith in God. From what I hear from others is that I have created my own genre of music. It is not old school and not referred to as modern but my music being in its own lane. I have been referred to as having magnetism and my lyrics being a draw because it is of substance. I do not rate my own stuff, I leave it up to the audience and put it out there for them to let me know if they love it like I do. Acting just seems to come natural to me so I am told. Again I do not rate myself but I leave that to my audience and fans. I really enjoy acting a whole lot and seem to be able to take a script, read it, feel it and act it out exactly how the writer intends for it to be performed. I just feel blessed to come from a family of entertainers so I guess it is just in my blood. I have learned to always give 100 percent to everything I do and I would like the world to know that “DREAMS NEVER DIE!” I am living my best life and doing exactly what I have always wanted to do. Not many people can say that. So I know I’m blessed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to Jrs Restaurant in Brooklyn where they would experience the best strawberry cheesecake in the world. In my opinion. Then we would probably go to a comedy club in the village to check out new up and coming comedians. I would definitely invite them to go off broadway with me in order to take in a play. The Lion King is a must see in my opinion. Since I’m a big kid at heart, I would have to take them to Orlando Florida to Disney world to jump on the best roller coaster, in my opinion, “The Hulk”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without him I would not have been relieved of my alcoholism and also the people he has put into my life. My family as a whole and my loved ones have been totally supportive along with my anonymous group who I am not allowed to mention by name but they are an organization of outside family who one day at a time, take the time in every meeting to show me how to live clean and sober for the past 13 years. Everyone I have mentioned are a taproot created by God.
