We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre “Mo’Dre” Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andre “Mo’Dre”, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Originally hailing from upstate NY, Andre “MoDre” Brown began his journey like many others before him inspired by the musicians and singers he heard in church every sunday! Growing up in a family/household where all genres of music were played from Gospel to classic rock & roll to funk & soul, it’s no surprise that he found his passion and love for music at such a young age!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Honestly I’m just a lover or music and ppl and culture!! My biggest inspirations musically have been Creatives who have pushed the limits musically and created with out being boxed in to a certain sound or genre! Ppl like Stevie wonder, prince, and many more! I would like to think the music I make blurs so many lines musically but I believe resonates with people because it has a bit of nostalgia or familiarity be it 70’s soul or 60’s rock influences with a fresh NOW approach!! Upon graduating high-school MoDre attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and was awarded a full Presidential Scholarship! Upon completion of his time at Berklee Andre relocated to Atlanta, GA, Where he would become one of the most sought after Bassists and Music Directors in the country! Between the years of 2010-2018 Mo’Dre was blessed to performed with an “A” list of your favorite artists including TLC, Flo Rida , Ruth B , Dietrich Haddon and Keri Hilson to name a few with appearances on Coachella 2018 , Lollapalooza 2015/16 as well as the The Today Show with Jennifer Lopez & Lin Manuel & Jimmy Kimmel Live with Jidenna! I would say it was the building and maintenance of a great reputation and relationships, along with consistency and my Faith in God that has helped me continue to work within the industry! Most definitely hasn’t been easy but every experience as an opportunity for growth!! It’s been a long road and I’ve paid a lot of dues (still am lol) but I’ll say the most rewarding feeling is being able to get to a place where I could create and be unapologetically myself and being appreciated for it!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Awe man Atlanta has soo many great places to go! For food you’ve got , Ra Sushi, R Thomas, Chai-Pani, The Pullman, Woody’s Cheese Steak, Slim and Husky’s, Lotta Frutta! As for Outdoors places like Talullah Falls, Sweetwater Creek park and Stone Mountain are GREAT for hikes! But also just having a picnic in piedmont park or a bike ride on the beltline is always a good time!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this to the wonderful mentors I’ve had over the years Andre Bennett (RIP), my aunt Yvonne williams ,Justin Owens, Jorel Flynn and William Burke! If it weren’t for these ppl believing in me and pushing me to be great and see my own potential I would not be where I am today!!
