We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre’ Lamar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andre’, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

Risks and risk-taking sums up my entire career. When I finally decided to become an actor, I stepped away from my 9 to 5, the incentives, and the benefits that came along with it. Everyday, I focused on improving my craft by enrolling in acting classes, having current headshots, and unfortunately taking unpaid roles to build my resume and reel footage portfolio.

While my friends were starting families, purchasing homes and cars and receiving job promotions, I was taking a risk with my future. I was walking away from the security of my corporate job into the unknown. I decided that I didn’t want to wake up one day and live with the regret of not taking the path for which I was chosen to walk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a full-time working professional actor. I operate a taping service for actors, teach acting classes, and I co-own Right Vibes, an apparel brand company. My latest project, Glorious, was recently released on the Shudder network. I had the honor and privilege of working with some amazing actors, such as Ryan Kwanten and J.K. Simmons. In addition, I also had roles in the TV series The Resident and First Wives Club to name a few. Currently, I am directing an upcoming play based on “The Atlanta Child Murders”. This play is loosely based on the infamous case from 1979 to 1981 where 28 children, adolescents, and adults were murdered in Atlanta. This project is my first theater directorial debut. The one thing that helped me on my journey was resilience. It was not an easy process, but with prayer and consistency, I overcame challenges that arose along my path. I learned two major things during this time that I still practice today: 1. Never give up, and 2. Pray and meditate before making a major decision.

I want the world to know that my brand, story, and passion are interrelated and aligned with my purpose. One of my personal and professional goals is to inspire the lives of others. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting town, we would visit Stone Mountain Park, Ponce City Market, and the Beltline. The view of the city from the top of Stone Mountain is breathtaking. Ponce City Market has a variety of food options, shops, as well as entertainment and recreational venues. The beltline is a great way to see various areas of the city of Atlanta. In addition to being a multi-use trail, the beltline is sprinkled with parks, restaurants, and markets for the art enthusiast. Last but not least, I would recommend the VR Bar or Suite Lounge to experience Atlanta’s nightlife.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

The first person that comes to mind is my Mother. Unknowingly, she sparked my interest in acting when I was growing up. In an effort to keep me away from negative peer pressure in my neighborhood, she would rent movies, of my preference, for me to watch.
