We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrane Cummings and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrane, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My journey began in my home country Jamaica. My love and passion for food started in high school where I studied Food & Nutrition. I then moved on to upgrade my culinary background by enrolling in a Commercial Food Preparation program. Which I did extremely well and cropped multiple awards. I matriculated to tertiary level where I started a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, my major being Food & Nutrition. I migrated to The United States of America and my life changed. Moving to the big City gave me big dreams. I was granted the opportunity to work in some fine spaces gaining experiences in fine dining, fast casual, catering and corporate dining. These experiences help to expand my skills and expertise in the hospitality field, giving me a compelling resume that wow employers. In 2016 I started my brand Flair Food Events. This brand was birthed in NYC and has become a household name. Flair Food started out doing caterings and has now expanded its services. The business is now a partnership business based in Fayetteville, Georgia.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Flair Food stands out by offering a Jamaican-infused dining experience unlike any other. We blend the rich, bold flavors of traditional Jamaican cuisine with a modern twist, creating dishes that are both familiar and exciting. Our menu reflects the heart of Jamaica—spicy, vibrant, and full of life—while also incorporating locally sourced ingredients that tie us to our community. From our jerk chicken to our signature tropical cocktails, Flair Food is a celebration of flavor and culture, designed to give our guests an unforgettable culinary adventure.
We’re incredibly proud of bringing authentic Jamaican flavors to a broader audience and infusing them with our own flair. It excites us to see our customers experiencing Jamaican cuisine for the first time or rediscovering it in a fresh way. We’re also excited about expanding our menu, experimenting with new dishes, and growing our presence in the community. The feedback and love we’ve received so far fuel our passion for what’s next!
It’s been a journey of passion, dedication, and teamwork. Myself, Damone Allen, and Deidra Cross all shared a vision of bringing Jamaican flavors to the forefront, but it took a lot of learning and perseverance to get here. The process of developing the right menu, sourcing the best ingredients, and creating an atmosphere that reflects the warmth of Jamaica was a challenge we embraced. Our commitment to quality and authenticity is what helped us turn Flair Food into the success it is today.
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is the importance of community. Building relationships with local suppliers and connecting with our customers on a deeper level has been essential. We’ve also learned that resilience and flexibility are crucial in the restaurant business. Staying true to our vision while being open to feedback has allowed us to grow and thrive
Flair Food is more than just a restaurant—it’s a tribute to the rich culture and flavors of Jamaica, brought to life through passion and creativity. We want the world to know that when you step into Flair Food, you’re not just getting a meal—you’re getting an experience. We’re proud to represent the bold, flavorful spirit of Jamaica and to share it with the world in our own unique way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Huge shoutout to my business partner Damone Allen and Deidra Cross for being key players in bringing our vision to life with Flair Food. Couldn’t have done it without you both
