We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Lee Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy Lee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Oh, wow, where to begin! There have been a lot of thoughts and even more over thinking. Am I doing this right? What do people want? How do I do this? In the end the best approach I’ve found is to accept mistakes, make the things I would buy, and stand firm on my worth. Which, if you’re familiar with Imposter Syndrome, is not always an easy task. I began Amy’s Workshop in 2017 and it’s evolved into such a labor of love. I am constantly reminding myself to take this in as it’s happening rather than always thinking ahead.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most excited about the evolution of my business. It’s beautiful to see something blossom over the years that I got to build myself. The whole thing really excites me because I genuinely enjoy all the processes building a business entails. Often times we see just an end product, and that’s why I feel it’s important to show the process. I do that via social media. What I make takes time to create, but it’s also time spent messing things up and learning from your oops.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend and I have very similar interests. When she visits I will absolutely bring her to North Georgia for some day hikes, Dahlonega for cute shops and wine. Of course we’ll do some walks through Piedmont and hit up the beltline for cute cafes. We are also very big on cooking at home so we’ll plan picnics and have snacks always at the ready! I’ve only been in Atlanta for a year and a half so still learning all the great places to go to!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Grams. She is a positive light in my life and has always been encouraging in all my endeavors. (There have been many!) I even have a dedication page to her in an art journal I have from when I was 9. Her creative spirit flows in my veins and I’m so thankful to have a gem like her in my life.
