Meet Amryn Soldier | Photographer & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amryn Soldier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amryn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business wasn’t exactly one clear decision as it just felt like the natural next step at each point in my life. During my childhood I was deeply interested in art and had creative tendencies. While in High School I created an LLC and started to delve into nature, portraiture, events, and senior photography. In college I decided to major in Art concentrating in photography and leaned heavily into wedding and portraiture after graduation. For the last ten years I have been so glad to be busy with hundreds of weddings, family, and fine art projects. The most fulfilling part is meeting people and being part of major milestones for their lives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography is about connecting with people and I believe that’s what sets me apart from others. I love to engage with clients, their family, and friends to create important memories and it shows how much I enjoy my work. That feedback from clients is what I am most proud of! Finding ways to monetize your skills as an artist is challenging because it is difficult to find the type of work you are best suited to perform. The most basic aspect of photography that I find most appealing is the use of light and mood. In each category of work that I create whether it is commercial work or otherwise, it is important to focus on the qualities of the profession I find the most inspiring. Creating a career out of a passion is difficult- anyone working in a creative field wants to do so because they enjoy the nature of their work. I have realized that just because photography is my passion does not mean that it won’t ever feel like “work” it just means that if I focus on the aspects of it I love then it’s still worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Exploring my city is a never-ending endeavor! I have multiple lists for favorite restaurants, museums, hiking spots, and great views that I love to share with friends. Atlanta has some amazing nature- Lullwater Preserve and the Botanical Garden would be my top picks. The High Museum, ABV Gallery, and the Plaza Theatre are great spots to see art. The Southern Feed Store’s (Buteco) Tuesday night open mic is an amazing place to see local artists. Atlanta also has an amazing food scene with so many different cuisines; Zyka, Victory Sandwich Bar, Lucian Books & Wine, Two Urban Licks, and Kabob Land to name a few of my go-to restaurants. My absolute favorite bar is Sister Louisa’s for a nice house party vibe and The District and Tabernacle always have amazing concerts for incredible artists. A sunset view at Jackson Street bridge would be the perfect way to end a trip to the city to see the skyline at night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family and friends have definitely played a part in my story with their support. I am very inspired by the books, movies, and other artists of all disciplines; Ren Hang, Brooke Shaden, Johnson Tsang, & Francesca Woodman to name a few.
