We had the good fortune of connecting with Aminah Abdul Saleem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aminah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind my business was to mainly bring my talent to the front lines by broadcasting my deep passion for food & sharing it with others. When I was 17 I recognized the potential in my passion and knew it could become a business, but not only did I want to just turn it into a business just to profit i wanted to start a business to bring something different to the market.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

My business started In 2021 when i was 17 years old. I started my business after leaving my job at 7 Boys Cafe. From working in the food industry and learning young I was inspired.

I decided to start my own business because I wanted to have more creative control over the food that I was making and serving. I felt like I was limited for a long time so I wanted to be able to create dishes that truly reflected my own unique vision and style. I also wanted to have more flexibility and autonomy in terms of when and where I worked.

There were a lot of logistical and other hurdles that I had to overcome, and it required a lot of hard work and dedication to get things up and running. I had to learn a lot of new skills outside of just cooking, such as marketing, finance, and management. However, I was motivated by my passion for cooking and my belief in my own abilities as a chef, I was determined to make my business a success

One thing that always made me rethink my business was not having a strong support system or client base to start with. eventually I overcame this by staying determined and finding my target audience. I focused on creating unique and eye-catching dishes that appealed to a specific audience, which happened to be a variety. This helped me establish a reputation and gain momentum in the industry.

What I’m most proud of in my business is the fact that it’s become alot of peoples favorite.. I’ve been able to create not just a business, but an experience that people will never be able to forget, when eating my food I know my customers enjoy great food and great customer service. I love being able to see regular customers come back time and again, and to hear their feedback and see their enthusiasm for what I’m doing. It’s a different feeling to know that I have an impact on my customers by just cooking for them and offering my services.

I want the world to know that I am a passionate and hardworking chef who has taken the leap to start my own business. I am proud of what i have accomplished in a relatively short amount of time, and I want to inspire others to follow their dreams & pursue their passions. I believe that with dedication and perseverance, anyone can achieve their goals, even in a competitive and challenging industry like the culinary world.

Lastly, I want the world to know that there is no experience, like the Aminah Made It experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My teachings of cooking started off in my younger years from ages 10 – 11 years old. Watching my older sister in the kitchen & seeing her go through culinary school was really a life skill being taught that i didnt know would turn into a passion. When I was little i watched my sister in the kitchen all the time so my shoutout would definitely go to her , my sister always came home with a new recipe to try and always included me no matter what, so for that I would shout out my sister for helping me discover a passion that has bought me happiness & more.
