We had the good fortune of connecting with Amina Rowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amina, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Well, I can’t say I “came up” with the idea, what I can say is God placed it on my heart. It’s part of my purpose here on earth. I’ve always had a heart to give, which was instilled in me at an early age. My junior year of undergrad was the first time I gave deep thought to starting a nonprofit and actually typed it in the notes of my phone. They say, write the plan and make it plain. As time went on, I battled the fear of starting my nonprofit for many reasons but The Turning Point Inc. is here and I’m glad to say 2024 is divine timing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I truly believe my career started when I had the opportunity to study abroad in Belize. This was the first time for a lot of things for me, especially going out the country and catching a flight. Traveling abroad opened my eyes to many possibilities that at the time I had counted myself out of. This was probably one of my proudest moments. I currently work for the State Board at a Law enforcement agency. I’m grateful to have landed a career in my field not long after graduating. I’ve had some bumps in the road along the way but it’s taught me really what perseverance is in the face of advisory and self-disappointment. I can be my own worst critic (all of the time) but I’m proud of the things I’ve accomplished thus far; 1st generation graduate, I’ve traveled to five countries, tapped into personal styling, currently working on my Masters, and started my nonprofit. I can’t count how much the odds have been stacked against me but thanks to God I’m here and I’m thriving. I won’t the world to know that my story is no different than the rest. Continue to put yourself first and do what makes you happy. Everything else will fall into place. Remember, fear is the only thing stopping you; a little faith goes a long way. That’s what I’ve learned and still learning to do; believing in myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– If I were to take my best friend around the area we would definitely have a spa day, being pamper with massages at Platinum Bar and of course getting mani’s and pedi’s (I truly love self care days). For a bite to eat, we’d head to Colony Square to grab some tacos from Pretty Little Tacos and catch a movie at Ipic theatre or even Starlight (those are my top two movie places right now). I’m an outdoorsy girl so a picnic at the park or visiting the waterfall in Roswell would be in the plans; we could even go to the beltline and catch the scenery. Shopping, shopping, and more shopping iykyk! My favorite store right now is Akira (but a girl like me can shop anywhere). I love to get dressed, A dolled up night on a rooftop is in the plans! I like this place called spin art as well, you can go and create your own Picasso’s lol. Personally, I also think the Ferris wheel is now a staple here in the city, something exciting & chill. There’s so much we could do pottery, horse back riding, museums, amusement parks, wine tasting, etc. I’m very adventurous, so if I’m learning, having an adrenaline rush, or simply creating memories, it’s for me!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, I actually have a few people. First, is my mom, I truly owe everything to her. She’s the one who taught me unconditional love and love for all. If humble and meek (showing patient restraint) was a person it would be her. My mom has showed me that no matter what, make the best out of what you have. I know without a doubt my siblings and I have been blessed and favored due to my mom blessing others even when she didn’t have it herself. Our motto at The Turning Point is “Blessed To Be A Blessing”, I would accredit that to her. In addition I would like to shoutout my aunt who’s always encouraging me and keeping me on my toes, to my brothers who gives me the motivation to keep going, to my mentor Ronni, The Turning Point team, and to friends & family for always supporting me.
