We had the good fortune of connecting with Ameca Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ameca, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina led me, a native New Orleanian to Georgia in August of 2005. I soon realized there were no snowball stands where I could enjoy my favorite frozen treat on a hot summer day in Metro Atlanta. I purchased an “in home style” snowball machine and flavors then began perfecting the craft of shaving ice. Over the years, I made snowballs for my friends and co-workers at company events.

I have vivid memories as a child of going to the snowball stand after school and choosing bright colored flavors that I am sure my mom gasped over because they would stain my lips and mouth for days. I just want to be a facilitator in creating similar memories for other children and families.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nola Sneauxballs provides authentic, New Orleans style, hand-crafted, shaved ice made with purified water and pure cane sugar. Our flavors are bold, and our ice is velvety like real snow– not crunchy and coarse. What sets us apart from other shaved ice companies is our flavors are never pre-made. They are sourced directly from New Orleans and are handmade at our sneauxball stand daily. Some of our signature flavors include Peaches & Cream, Wedding Cake and Creole Cream Cheese.

What makes us most proud of Nola Sneauxballs is providing paid apprenticeships to underprivileged children in the community. Nola Sneauxballs has been the first employer to all of the children that have worked for us. They learn everything from inventory management, resolving customer service disputes, and cash flow management. You always remember your first job and we are proud to facilitate their journey in learning business acumen and entrepreneurial skills.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m still learning the area so I wouldnt be able to suggest anything as of now, lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, Reginald Jackson, Jr. He made my dream a reality as he secured the business location, funded the start-up costs, and worked at the sneauxball stand until we were fully staffed. You my love are my real-life superhero.
