We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Sears and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business during the beginning phase of the pandemic when the world had shut down. Coming up with my name, Waxing With Am, was actually pretty easy. My nickname is Am, & waxing is the service that I’m offering. The foundation of my business is confidence. Every woman, especially busy moms like myself, deserves to feel good in their most intimate skin. Sticking by that idea has allowed me the opportunity to connect with lots of dope women & build a clientele of women that believe in the same thing. Working for yourself is so challenging yet rewarding at the same time & going solo is one of my best decisions.

What should our readers know about your business?
It hasn’t been easy growing my business. I thought I was going to start accepting clients and my books would instantly fill, but it didn’t kick off immediately like that. It took me months of figuring out a strategy that worked and implementing goals. I also made some changes in my personal life that helped me make a healthy balance between work and the time I needed to be a mom. I’ve been discouraged more times than I can count, but giving up has never been an option. I’ve just kept going. I keep God first, stay true to me & I mind MY business. I’ve been in business for only and year and a half. This is still the beginning for WWA & I’m excited to see how my hard work will pay off in the next year and so on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m lucky because all of my besties are close by and all of our love languages is good food! My favorite brunch spot right now is Breakfast at Barney’s. I’ve been a few times & they’ve never disappointed me. It’s a black-owned restaurant located in Atlanta. My second choice is Joey D’s by Perimeter Mall. The garlic crab claws are my favorite! Due to the pandemic, I don’t venture out too much as I used to but I like to do anything that is fun. Arcades, amusement parks, fairs or even a concert.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m first going to shout out my favorite little people who are my sons: Daniel, Leon, & Paris. I go hard for them! Also, my village of support includes my family and friends. I know some people complain about not having adequate support from those closest to them when they embark on new endeavors, but since day 1 my people have shown out. I’ve never had to ask & I truly appreciate their love. Shoutout to my current and future clients too! They allow me the space to be myself and love what I do.
