We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Iman (The Fashion Stylist) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For me, being a creative comes very natural. It is something that brings me closer to my Lord and Savior. Also, it is a natural gift that I have the visions of creative sets or the out of the box outfits that I combine. I am not the person that simply feels fulfilled by security in a job, I need to express myself and fashion allows me to do just that! Expressing myself through clothing and fashion while having others confirm my gifts brings me confidence to keep going forward and keep exploring my gift. It also illustrates my purpose because it does come so authentically, I am able to inspire others to find their place in this world as well and that is a fulfillment that I can not express! I am forever grateful to have the passion to explore my creativity through a career and the courage to do it unwaveringly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My brand, The Style Medium was conceived in college (The Art Institute of Tampa). My ultimate goal for this brand is for it to be a styling agency, where I have multiple stylist and creatives work under me towards creating a total fashion moment for our clients. I wasn’t always as confident in myself back then but I’ve always been very determined. For example, when I first ventured to the Atlanta area from Florida, I had such a hard time acclimating to this over saturated, high living cost city. My mother even wanted me to return home but I had to push through with an unwavering mindset. I believe the main thing that gave me that persistence is my relationship with God and Him building that confidence from within me to be able to express myself fearlessly. Also, my keen eye for trend spotting has allowed me to continuously adapt with the changes of the world and fashion tremendously. My brand is still a work in progress, but at the moment, I am creating photoshoot concepts and putting together the team to bring them to life. I feel this will allow me to connect with creatives with common goals and aesthetics and broaden my brand recognition as I go.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a very artsy person but a foodie at heart! I am very new to the city but I would definitely recommend going to the midtown area to see some of the art museums and cultural museums that are in the area. They are so informative and interactive which heightens the experience. Speaking of interactive experiences I would definitely recommend some of the dope photo experiences that are in the city like The Black Girl Hair Experience or TFTI! As for food, I love a good local joints, some of my faves are Atlanta Breakfast Club, Twisted Souls Cookhouse ( super unique cocktails), or EscoBar a fun vibe with delicious food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will definitely have to give a shout out to my mother! She is my number one supporter. Even when I don’t fully believe in myself she is right there to help redirect my perspective and solidify my confidence in achieving my goals!
