We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Broder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My interest and skills in social media and content marketing played a significant role in what business I started, but the motivation behind starting my own business in general came from my desire to chase my equestrian dreams as fully as possible. I want to compete at an international level in showjumping, and the time and dedication it takes to do so would not be compatible with a traditional 9-5 where I do not have control over my schedule. I now have basically two full-time jobs, but the ability to shape my days exactly how I need them to be, and work primarily in areas that light me up creatively, makes it well worth it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a social media manager and strategist for businesses looking to amplify their presence and grow loyal, engaged communities on Instagram. I offer full-service management, strategy retainers, and 1:1 consulting calls, as well as educational resources for business owners looking to DIY their social media.
ABC Social Media Management is still a relatively new endeavor, as I only started it last summer before my final semester of undergrad. Not many students would choose to launch a business as they were finishing their degree (or so people keep telling me!), but I think my ability to juggle multiple competing interests, combined with my strong work ethic and passion for Instagram specifically (I have had an account since the very early days of the app, when I was in sixth grade!) made this choice a natural next step in my personal and professional progression. I am so excited to lean fully into client work over this next year now that my business is my main focus, and bring everything I have learned from being a content creator, influencer, photographer, blogger, and social media marketing intern to my management clients to craft high quality, durable strategies for them to see success on Instagram and offline.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have actually not been lucky enough to visit Atlanta beyond just passing through the Atlanta airport, but I would actually recommend checking out the Delta Sky Club if possible as you travel to or from the city! I flew back and forth throughout the fall of 2021 between D.C. and Lexington, KY and one of my favorite parts of my travels was getting to watch the planes land and take off from the lounge. The food is also quite good!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents deserve so much recognition for everything that they have given me. They have supported me through all of life’s ups & downs, and have given me the room to “fail safely”, which I believe has molded me into the person I am today. I am forever indebted to them for their love and support.
