We had the good fortune of connecting with Amatielle Sativa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amatielle, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe risk should be minimalized into two categories with the focus on cause and effect. When taking risks you should be guided by a moral and ethical compass. Keep it legal.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As Amatielle Sativa both my music and novels represent realness and becoming your most dope self through faith, authenticity, and the inspirational triumph of that faith over fear. I first started ghost writing novels and stories at the age of fourteen inspired by other award winning and amazing Black American female authors Toni Morrison, Zora Neal Hurston, and Nikki Giovanni. Music came into play for me earlier than that as I began singing and forming song lyrics around four years old. Both were constants but music captured my heart first as it helped carry me through some of life’s more difficult periods having aged out of foster care.
Getting to where I am today was quite a climb. There were times I was hungry, but didn’t starve and times I was homeless living in a car with a hole in the floor of it but I never had to sleep on the cold concrete. Very special key people helped me survive just as now very special individuals help me to thrive not because they love me so much or that I had done anything magnificent for them but because the spirit of God in the form of his love lives in them and by his grace I was able to receive help when I needed it most.
Right now I am most excited about being alive everyday particularly in this pandemic and the new inspiration I have to create more books & music and watching them grow into other types of creative expression while helping other artists and creatives do the same!
I’ve learned a lot; Mostly that honesty is king. While you never miss the last bus, trust must be earned and valued and that starts with trusting yourself.
I also learned happiness is a choice, not the responsibility of a person, place, or thing outside of me and that no amount of money can satisfy the desire to be, do, or have what you are put on this Earth for.
What I want the world to know is that you can be your most dope self
without having to sell or even smoke ‘dope’ in copious amounts as I did in the past being the Southern Cali girl I am.
Substance of any kind can be a good thing if properly managed not just with respect to the law but with care and moderation in respect to yourself and others, and most of all that faith can supercede anything but doubt.
So let your doubt be all that falls through the cracks and set your sights on the highest peaks you can fathom one mountain at a time because if you fall short you will land on your feet in a far better place than you started from.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting we would mask up and head to brunch at Foundry Park at Atlantic Station because it is sort of majestic; and then visit the Trap Museum. We would visit Planet Fitness because that is a mainstay for any great day. Stone Mountain would be next.
I would make sure we stopped at Urban Grind off Marietta Street for refreshment and to appreciate some great art and tour Dr. Martin Luther King’s childhood home.
Then we would enjoy sights and sounds of Atlanta night life at Apache Cafe on 3rd in Midtown;
After that we would check out The museum of tolerance and The Eternal flame.
Next we would travel deep in the hood and go see the sock man for fresh white socks 10 for 20 and go roller skating at Sparkles.
Later we would enjoy some of the best live music in the city at The High museum of art.
The last day would be a visit to Centennial Park and the Georgia Aquarium and enjoy massages at the spa.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out local visual artist, business owner and philanthropist Jeff Ewing of www.Illerartwork.com he taught me how to paint to manage the stress of grief due to the loss of loved ones during the pandemic.
