We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Vezendy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always enjoyed creating in my life. Growing up I would often find ways to create and express myself whether by painting, embroidery, drawing or sewing. Even now I like to use my free time painting large murals on my walls or crafting personalized gifts for family members. After graduating with my degree in engineering and physics, art became even more of a relaxing past time. During the day I create and design but with very rigid rules, when I get to do balloon installations the rules get thrown out the door and I get to express myself, I find the freedom of art so therapeutic.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Balloon art is a very unique category of short-term event decor. At Amplified Balloons LLC we try to stand out by always amplifying the design, whether its by adding handmade fringe, unique prints, over-the-top design, 3d butterflies, live flowers, or custom vinyl, we want it to be above what the customer had imagined. Starting your own business is not easy, and when you add in that is art and subjectively priced and valued it has its own challenges. A lot of the difficulty was getting enough people to see our value and allow us to show our worth. People need that portfolio of past jobs to really grasp our abilities and the range of designs we are cable of. We are lucky enough to have a steady group of large customers constantly expanding that portfolio and spreading our name. We are shocked by how fast word of mouth alone has grown our business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it’s the summertime we are definitely floating down the Chattahoochee River or paddle boarding at Morgan Falls with my dog. Top on the list of places to take my friends is The Works and we would be hitting up one of the many breweries in that area that has live comedy that weekend: Firemaker, Steady Hand, Second Self, Round trip. For food, I am making breakfast because I like to boost that skill that I have hooned but we’d go out for lunch and dinner. My favorite spot for lunch is either Crazy Cubans or Upbeet. For dinner, depending on the price we want to spend, I’m taking them to O-ku or Bone Garden. And of course, my favorite rainy day fun activity would be either axe throwing or Puttshack. As you can see, I am a big fan of West midtown and all the new places that have popped up in my area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I certainly did not get here on my own. I have to credit my parents for teaching me balloon animals from a young age. We all learned together and really grew a family business in Ohio based on entertainment and over-the-top balloon animals. Having the base skills really gave me the ability to dive right into creating my own business and being confident in my skill set. I also have to shout out my husband. When it comes to my grand designs he keeps me grounded and focused. He is really the structure that makes sure I am billing correctly and planning with enough forethought. Many times I find myself getting stressed and he is there to reassure me until I see the final product that I imagined. Without my parents and my husband, my company simply would not survive.
