We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I was raised to have solid morals. A quote my Mom often repeated, but always stood out, is that “You are only as good as your word”. Unfortunately, my Mom passed away suddenly almost a month ago to the day. Although she is no longer here with me physically, I know how extremely proud I made her, and she lives on through the work I do today,
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always had a passion for fashion. As I child, I spent countless hours dressing up in my Mom’s clothing and then staging photoshoots of the outfits which were captured on what ever disposable camera still had a few shots left. That deep rooted love for clothing and fashion has only grown stronger with age. It is through that passion that my clothing resale business was born. The clothing resale business is not only an affordable way for customers to buy great hardly used or new items at a lower cost, but it also cuts down on environmental waste and pollution and it feels great to be a part of that. The journey to becoming a full-time reseller has not always been a smooth one. I opened my Poshmark “closet” for business October 2017. My initial hope was to sell a few things I never really wore, and no longer really had room to store. At the time, I was in a very unhealthy relationship that isolated me from social media, friends, and created distance between me and my family. What was not taken from me was my unwavering work ethic. I was going to make this “my way out”. I spent countless days/hours building and fine tuning the business that is still growing today. My first day as a full time reseller began on Day 1 of the COVID-19 lockdown, which was great because with the malls closed, shoppers relied on online shopping to make their purchases. What sets my “closet” apart from others is the variety, style, and the one on one care I give to each item. I treat shoppers like I would like to be treated… and through that I feel will always bring positive vibes to each customer. Mom’s recent passing left me shook, but the hereditary “excitement” we both found in shopping has been a blessing, and I have inherited ALL of her clothes. Although it may take me years to go through them all, I look forward to sharing them with my customers and hope that they feel as fabulous as she did wearing them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places to go in Georgia are “OTP” (outside the perimeter). There are so many cute dive bars in the Marietta Square and Downtown Roswell…
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This “shoutout” goes to all those that have been and are currently in my life… the good, the bad, and the (you get my drift) None of my success would be possible had it not been the support of my family. They always had complete confidence in my “work ethic”(my choice in boyfriends was another story), and that gave me the confidence to follow my passion and through that find success.
