Meet Amaiya Butler | Creative Director & Art Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amaiya Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amaiya, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
A lot of self-discipline and determination. I had to learn that in order to achieve something, you have to go get it. You can’t say you’re going to do something then days and even months will go by, and you realized that none of your goals are accomplished. You just have to keep in mind that you are in control of your own destiny in life. Once you let go of the self-sabotage tendencies and procrastination, success will start gravitating towards you. As long as you’re willing to overcome these challenges to achieve your deepest desires, you will continue to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to the production of my work and projects, I ensure that my work reflects my personality and inner thoughts so that way people would be like “Oh yeah, this is Maiya’s work for sure!” I think what sets me apart from others is how I can gather pieces of inspo from different medias and timelines and still somehow make it me. In the past year, I learned to not let creative burnout put my business on ice. There was a time where I would see people’s work and compare it with mine thinking I’m not creative enough which caused me to be inconsistent in what I wanted to do. After being aware that the way I was feeling at the time was related to me having a creative burnout, I decided to put my mind to rest and just keep in mind that there is no rush to it. I just want my work and art to show the hard work I pour into a project and how it defines who I am today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In terms of exciting activities to do in the city, I enjoy something that is calm but can also be amusing. I’d suggest the museum of illusions because it’s interactive but you’re also enjoying the art behind it. Also, Piedmont Park is another place that we could go to since there is always cool events and festivals going on there. Now for food, we could probably go to Ponce, little five points, or honestly get suggestions from TikTok lol!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, there is a friend that I have connected with over the past year who have guided me to success and her name is Milly. Observing her work ethic and always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and get my stuff done. Also, I wanna give a big thank you to my family and friends who have supported me for following my passion. Words cannot express my gratitude I have for my loved ones.
