We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well when I first started iLash Icon 2 years ago I wasn’t sure how it would go. I was a bit nervous but determined. I had just quit my job as a pharmacy technician and realized being a worker bee just wasn’t for me. I needed to find interest in something and fast. Something that I would be happy to wake up and do every morning. I wanted to be appreciated. I had no plan B this had to go right. I took my last $500 and paid for a lash class I practiced every single day, 4 months in I was unstoppable. Best decision I ever made.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to my craft I love to educate people not only clients but others in the same line of work as me. I’m always more than happy to help someone out or suggest they do something different next time to make something better. I clap for everyone.

I got to where I am today from betting on myself. I practiced until I was satisfied and I still practice til this day. I can get a full set of lashes done in an hour. Full, dark, isolated sets. No easy fans all handmade. I am most proud of myself for that. I also have ebooks on how. I’ve also learned that 1 class isn’t the end all so I’m always taking classes and learning. Becoming iLash Icon wasn’t easy for me. Lots of trials and tribulations for me. But I was persistent. I’m here no one can take this from me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m fairly new here lol I’m from Cleveland, Ohio & reside in Macon but one of my favorite places in Atlanta is Blue/Lucca, their Mediterranean menu is bomb and their hookah selection is my fave. Another spot is Sivas hookah lounge the food and drinks are bomb there as well. Elleven 45 lounge is a cool kick it spot to grab a section and just vibe ask for Kanyè lol. The Botanical gardens is beautiful and I def recommend anyone visiting to go check it out. Oh yeah the trap museum is another dope spot to visit when there isn’t a line down the street lol

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every last 1 of my clients who put their trust in me deserve a shoutout. But most importantly my BF, Sidney. He pushed me….he pushes me EVERY SINGLE DAY. I must admit there’s been so many times I wanted to give up, put in an application somewhere and every time he reminds me why I got into lashing and that I must keep going. If it wasn’t for him I’d definitely be at Amazon or something lol. I owe a lot to him.
