We had the good fortune of connecting with Alysha Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alysha, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Navigating and breaking into the film/TV industry can be quite challenging, which is something outsiders may not realize. It involves uncertainty about when the next project will come and how to fund it. Constantly generating ideas without the necessary funding can be frustrating. It truly requires a deep passion for the industry to persevere through these challenges, but for me who loves the grind, there’s no other way i’d rather it be.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career journey has been filled with significant milestones that have shaped my professional growth. I began at Encompass Digital Media, where I gained foundational experience in media. Transitioning to Cartoon Network was a pivotal move that provided me with a robust education in television on a large platform.

However, one of my most significant accomplishments was joining CNN as a content coordinator. This role allowed me to contribute to a renowned media organization and sharpen my skills in content management and coordination.

One of the most rewarding experiences in my career was producing and serving as an assistant director for my best friend’s first short film, named Plant People, it was my first one. It was a moment of creative collaboration and personal fulfillment that fueled my passion for storytelling.

In my career, I’ve faced challenges that have tested my resilience. One of the hardships I’ve encountered is battling feelings of not feeling good enough, which is a common struggle in a competitive industry.

Additionally, funding independent projects has been a significant hurdle. It can be tough to secure financial support, but I’ve learned the importance of finding and nurturing relationships with those who believe in my craft and vision.

From these experiences, my career trajectory has taken off, and I continue to strive for excellence in every project I undertake.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
During my friend’s week-long trip to Atlanta, our first stop would be Eclipse de Luna for their amazing happy hour from 4 pm to 6 pm, featuring the best $5 menu in town. We’d then head to Chateau Elan for a weekend getaway, exploring the winery, indulging in fine wine, joining a cooking class. As we head back to Atlanta we unwind with a stroll along the Beltline. To culminate the weekend, we’d relish the brisket at Two Urban Licks and immerse ourselves in the lively atmosphere of Rum Punch Sundays for an evening of dancing and fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my family and friends in my Shoutout. Without my friends’ encouragement, I wouldn’t have had the courage to pursue my passion wholeheartedly. They’ve helped me uncover my purpose in storytelling and the impact I’m destined to make in this world. My family’s continuous support and unwavering belief in me are the reasons I never give up. My mom, sister, and brother form the solid foundation of my journey. My girlfriends have been my confidants, loving me unconditionally, while my homeboys cheer me on every step of the way.
