We had the good fortune of connecting with Altelisha “Lisha” Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Altelisha “Lisha”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To be honest, I didn’t set out to start my own business. My primary goal was to help my friends and other young professionals become money savvy. Many of them wanted to know how to start investing, how to get rid of their debt, and learn the steps they needed to build the live they desire. My business started as a blog to help them with that. I was asked many of the same questions from people, so the writing down the answers, explaining my though process, and arming people with options and pathways to achieve financial success grew from that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a medical doctor who is also a wealth strategist, doctor-preneur, and money coach and no, it wasn’t easy.

In regards to my medical career, I’m a primary care sports medicine physician who completed over 8 years of training, after finishing undergrad, to get to where I am today. I started off as one of the few African-Americans at Duke University trying to balance varsity athletics, pre-med requirements, and other academic commitments but somehow finding the strength to push through. I went from the applicant who got rejected from medical school during my first attempt to someone who ended up getting accepted into medical school the next year, graduating with honors, and being selected to join the medical school admissions committee.

I’ve been a family medicine physician for thousands of patients and served as an assistant team physician for some of the best athletes in the world through my former job with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the LA Lakers and the LA Dodgers. I have since moved back to Atlanta and will be one of the primary care doctors and sports medicine physicians at Morehouse School of Medicine.

But being a physician isn’t my only role. One of my passions is helping other physicians and people of color, live a life a life of wealth and wellness. What started off as a blog has now grown into so much more. Through my CareerMoneyMoves.com website I’ve published hundreds of blogs on personal finance and investing. I’ve spoken at numerous conferences, partnered with businesses, and organized financial wellness workshops across the country to become money savvy. I am also a strategic advisor for Doc2Doc, the co-host of the “Money Meets Medicine” podcast, and the Director of Business Development & Content Strategy for Attend (a comprehensive platform built to help doctors with all of their financial needs).

Whether its health, sports medicine, wealth building, or wellness, you can go to my drlishataylor.com website to get the info you need to create the life you desire.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, I LOVE Atlanta. The the people, the connections, the entertainment… I can’t get enough.

If my best friend was visiting for the weekend, I’d likely plan to meet them at Fogo de Chao or the St. Regis for happy hour. Who doesn’t love some apps and nice cocktail?

For dinner, I’d make a reservation at Little Alley’s Steak, Eight Sushi, or Pappadeaux Seafood depending on their preference.

I’d plan a brunch at Negril Village, Ms. Icey’s Kitchen & Bar, or the Garden Parc for all the vibes. Then we’d go to Chateau Elon for wine tasting and a spa day.

I’m a lover of the Arts so perhaps we’d check out the Cobb Center, Fox Theatre, or The Tabernacle for a play, comedy show or music concert.

As a sports med doc, the weekend wouldn’t be complete without us going to some sort of sporting event (whether it’s walking around the Battery to see the Braves, enjoying Atlanta United or the Falcons the Mercedes Benz Stadium, or going to see the Atlanta Dream or the Hawks play basketball at the State Farm Arena.

If we have some time, perhaps I’d organize a game night or kickback with some of my closest friends and family to top it off.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are 4 main people/groups that deserve a shoutout and credit in my story.

The first is God, because without Him, none of this would be possible. His favor and grace have allowed me to things I never thought possible. I eternally grateful to be in the position I am now.

Second I’d like to shoutout my family and closest friends. They have always believed in me and supported my ideas over the years. Because of them, I gained the confidence to go after my dreams in a bold way. I truly believe I can achieve anything I set my mind to and they are a big reason why.

Third, I’d like to give a shoutout to Dr. Jim Dahle. He wrote a book called “The White Coat Investor” that changed my life. He was the first example I saw of a doctor who could help people with money in a meaningful way. I wish him well in all he does.

Fourth, I’d like to shoutout Dr. Jimmy Turner and the rest of the “Attend for Doctors” team. Because of them, I am able to take my dream to the next level and impact doctors like never before.
