Meet Alphonso Settles | Actor/Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alphonso Settles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alphonso, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised In Detroit, Michigan where i have lived most of my adult life. My back ground growing up consists of sports and being competitive, I have a real work-horse,grind it out mentality! I raised by my mom and grandma, my mom I’m still blessed to have, but my grandma is deceased. They both taught and showed me how we could take what we had and make the best out of it. They instilled qualities in me that showed me if you truly put your mind to what you want you can achieve it, no matter what it is. My mom for the most part is laid back but can be a fire-cracker as well, my grandma was laid back also so I think I have taken on their personalities in that aspect and apply it to how I live my everyday life. I’m very observant and patient, loving and caring and I only want the best for myself and those that I care for. I have qualities from them that have created the man I am today. My work-ethic,my drive to wanna be better and motivate others to believe they can do anything they put there minds too. Today as we speak I have been blessed with a successful career as an actor that is getting bigger at a fast rate! It sometimes can be overwhelming but when I sit down to myself, my laid back demeanor and personality allows me to put things into perspective for what they are and what they will be. It pushes me to want to achieve more and maximize my potential and be who I am suppose to be,I have to accredit that to my upbringing!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the thing that separates me from others is that I have a STRONG PASSION for what I do as an actor! I really take pride in every role that I take on and try to make it my own. I got where I am today just by showing up to auditions and landing roles in films that end up on big platforms to be seen on like Amazon Prime, Tubi, Urbanflix just to name a few. This ride has not been easy, I have dealt with tons of rejection which has taught me to have thick skin. I have done many projects early in my career that never saw the light of day which is very frustrating but also apart of the game. I have been blessed to overcome that because my personality allows me to deal with things as they come and just keep it moving and don’t be rattled by it. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is know when people are just trying to use me for personal gain, or maximize on my talent and likeness without doing things that are needed on their end. I have definitely learned and still learning more about the business end of this industry! I want people not know at the end of the day that I am reclusive because I grew up as an only child so I have no problem with being in a room full of people and can still be in my own world and to myself, but at the same time Im also very cordial and know how to interact with the public. I might look intimidating at 6’6 ‘260lbs but Im a gentle giant.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend comes to town we might hit up what we call here in Detroit, Coney Island! They have all kinds of food on the menu from hot dogs, chilli cheese fries, corn beef sandwiches and you can even get breakfast food there at any time of day or night and most other states do not have these restaurants. Also would take them to gym, I love working out feeling great and looking great so the gym would definitely be on the schedule, gotta work off that Coney Island lol. Then lastly I have had a several film premieres in my hometown of Detroit so we usually get all dressed up with the rest of my family and attend a premiere for a new film I have coming. I recommend anyone coming to Detroit to walk thru our downtown area that has a river walk off the water, Chene Park for concerts and restaurants all around the area which create a great ambiance and atmosphere to be apart of.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to thank my lady, she is and has been in my corner and been totally supportive and has played an intricate part in decisions that I make on certain things, especially regarding the industry that I’m in. I have to thank my mom and grandma also for instilling great qualities in me to help mold me into who I am. Lastly I wanna thank the fans that support my work and follow what i do. Without them watching my films, sharing them and spreading the word,I would not be where I am today if not for all of these factors!
