We had the good fortune of connecting with Alpha Aminata Dismukes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alpha Aminata, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I think as an artist we all have moments of indecision and doubts on whether to keep creating music or , For me I know that my music and songs like “Loving Myself” are having a huge positie impact on people and I can’t imagine not creating more music that does that and inspires others to want the best in life. I think when making music is no longer fun or inspiring I’d know it was time to set the mic down.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I moved to Atlanta back in 2019 to really work on my music and debut EP Heart Treble, My music is very unique and what sets me apart is my original and nostalgic 90’s type lyrics and music.
My executive producer Eric Mackey helped me develop my sound for sure and together we made my hit single Loving Myself which has over 3 million streams which I’m very proud of. I’m very excited to start writing for other artists and for the release of my debut self titled album in the next year. I’m ready to collab with more artists and share more of my music to the world,

I consider my music very self empowering and self love oriented, I love writing a good ballad too. I had very humble beginnings when growing up in Nashville, TN and was influenced a lot by Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Sade, and Erykah Badu, I only started seriously recording in 2017 when I moved to California, I faced a lot of setbacks with shady producers, songs not being properly mixed and tons of money spent on my first project only for it to not be perfected. I learned early on that you have to have a good team around you to reach your highest points of success. I also learned early on it’s important to own the masters of your work to make sure to protect the work you create.

I want people to know that I started from the bottom and worked my way up to this point and that my song “Loving Myself’ not only inspired others but inspires me everyday to keep making great music

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Cafe Intermezzo for it’s great brunch options as for dinner. I like Chops Lobster Bar and Oceanaire. Piedmont Park is always a vibe. One of my favorite spots in the city is the SkyView Atlanta it really shows off the heart of the city and showcases some really great views.
