We had the good fortune of connecting with Allie Martocci and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allie, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
There are tons values and principles that are so deeply important to me but one that I’d say matters most to me is authenticity. Staying true to yourself seems so simple but it is never as easy as it sounds especially when others encourage you to change yourself. In today’s world, being unapologetically yourself can be super controversial so I really admire anyone who can do that despite the pressure to fit in.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have had a really interesting journey with music, specifically songwriting. When I first started writing songs at around age 13, I was writing really honestly about things that were important to me. Then as I got older, I started to write based on what I heard on the radio and what was popular at the time and I wasn’t really keeping it authentic. I am all for experimenting with new musical styles but I was writing more for what I thought other people would like vs. writing to express myself. Now, I’ve finally circled back to writing music that means something to me…music that helps me cope with whatever life throws my way. I’d say that is something I am really proud of and truly excited about. I am a big reader and something that I really love about books is how immersive of an experience they are and how detailed they can be. Thats something that I am aiming to do with the new music that I am working on, appealing to the senses and making the listener feel like they’re experiencing it too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Step 1 would be to go on a hunt for some good live music. I am also really into breweries and most of those around here have live music now and then. You just can’t beat hanging outside on a nice day drinking some beers with friends and listening to a live band. Also, any rooftop bar/restaurants are a must!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have helped me grow into the person/musician that I am now but first and foremost I want to shoutout my parents. They have been insanely supportive of my music since day 1 and for that I am so grateful. My dad is actually the one who gave me my first guitar and taught me a few notes on piano which led to me writing music so I owe a lot to him. My mom took tons of time off to drive me to all my shows and anywhere else that music took me.

I also want to thank my best friend Lizz who has been there for me since we were 12 and who has always been my biggest fan. She promotes my music literally everywhere she goes so we always joke that she’s my manager.
