We had the good fortune of connecting with Allicia Washington-White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allicia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Cosmetics, a field that has countless choices for our glam favorites can often be intimidating for new companies. I knew that I was not (by any means) a makeup “pro,” but I knew that I can decipher between 3 seemingly identical nude lip glosses! I decided to find a niche within a niche and focus only on the area that I was most acquainted. Vanity Cosmetics Lipwear LLC gives peace of mind to others who too share in the feeling of being overwhelmed by products they may not need or even know how to use. My customers not only have a stress-free shopping experience, but they can shop even quicker without having to sift through miscellaneous items.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Vanity Cosmetics Lipwear LLC, a business that caters to individuals who love all things lips! We represent those who know they don’t have to be pro makeup artists to enjoy pro lipwear. I have always loved lipgloss and wanted to find products that were of great quality, but affordable and stylish to share with the population of beauty lovers who just love lipgloss.

Challenges present themselves often as I do deal with slow periods, but entrepreneurship is about fulfilling a need. , I invest at least 30 minutes a day working on something for the business or learning a new skill. to help me drive sales even during those times. It is not easy at times because I serve in every capacity and it gets tiring. Those reaffirming moments when a customer receives their package, or sets an alarm for a sale warms my heart and I keep going.

I learned to NEVER make announcements until all deals are signed and monies have been paid. Also, I learned that taking risks are wonderful, but it’s taking smart risks that’s more important. In short, I am saying to be cautious and learn how to think long-term. Immediate changes will have a long-term effect on areas of your business and it is best to discipline your mind to be a responsible as possible- in every sense of the word. Finally, I learned balance and how to effectively manage my time because I do need to set healthy boundaries so I can serve my customers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would so go to Sweet Diner Cafe’ for brunch and mimosas (fall in the bushes?) We would catch the street trolley to The Milwaukee Public Market for shopping and charcuterie.
We would drive along Lake Drive to view Lake Michigan and rent a pontoon and drift in the water!
For dinner, we will head to Casablanca, a middle-eastern restaurant. (Don’t forget drinks and hookah!) Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
