We had the good fortune of connecting with Alli Carroll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alli, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When working for yourself or in a startup environment, the boundaries between work and personal life often blur, and finding the optimal work-life balance is no easy feat. Without set hours, I feel like I’m constantly on the clock, and the need to hustle is ever-present. I am extremely passionate about my job and understand the value of exerting maximum effort into the early stages of my career. Being only 21 years old, I feel motivated to put my head down and work as hard as possible while I have an abundance of energy and few distractions. My current work-life balance is not what it was in high school or college, but I’m learning to savor the constant hustle. My mentality is ‘work hard now so I don’t have to later.’ I believe my work-life balance will change with each season of my life, but I am grateful for the open doors and opportunities that lay ahead.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been working at On Trend Creative Studio, a digital marketing agency in Athens, GA, for almost a year and a half. As a Social Media Account Manager, I operate various social media accounts for 5 different clients. This includes content creation, brand management, PR opportunities, marketing strategy, and more. What sets me apart from others in my field is not just my creative, analytical, and interpersonal skills, but also my passion and drive to exceed everyone’s expectations, including my own. I feel so lucky to wake up every day and do my dream job at only 21 years old. In May, I graduated with a B.B.A. in Marketing from the Terry College of Business. My proudest moment to date is graduating from UGA in 3 years with the opportunity to pursue social media management full-time. I’ve also had so many huge victories for my clients. For example, I grew one client from 500 followers to 5,000 in only 6 months. My journey to becoming a social media manager wasn’t without its challenges. Social media can be tricky and constant algorithm and trend changes keep me on my toes. Overcoming these challenges means embracing a growth mindset and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how to adapt and problem solve quickly, especially in high stress situations with tight deadlines. I have also learned to welcome change and remain open to new strategies and ideas. This has allowed me to stay ahead of trends, expand my skillset, and offer innovative solutions to my clients.
As for what I want the world to know about me and my story, it’s that you’re never too young to chase your dreams. If your job or life doesn’t excite you, make bold changes. This looks like branching out, taking risks, and hustling harder than anyone else. If you put in the time and effort, your dedication will pay off. I’m thrilled to continue on my journey to success by maintaining a hunger to learn, connecting with others, and seizing every opportunity that comes my way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Athens, Georgia is where I call home. If I have a friend visiting, I always take them on a tour of the UGA campus and downtown Athens. Additionally, we will go to the Georgia Museum of Art as well as the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. Lake Herrick is another great stop with a delicious treat from Alumni Cookie Dough. My favorite restaurants are Trapeze Pub, Hilltop Grille, Hybar, and Last Resort Grill for their white chocolate cheesecake. I enjoy taking my friends on a walk down Milledge Avenue to show off the beautiful greek houses. Marker 7 Coastal Grill in 5 points has the best drinks and outdoor atmosphere. Coffee at Hendershots or Thousand Faces is also a must-have.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thank you to my parents for modeling true hard work and dedication. Another huge thank you to Liz McShane for taking a chance on me and being an exceptional role model.
