We had the good fortune of connecting with Alleson Tate, CFP® and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alleson, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For over a decade, I had the privilege of serving as a financial advisor at Goldman Sachs, where my expertise was reserved for the elite few with at least $15 million to their name. This exclusivity created a glaring disconnect between my capabilities and the communities that could benefit most from my experience—those striving to build generational wealth and navigate the complexities of financial growth. I asked myself, “How can I bridge this gap? How can I extend my hand to those standing at the periphery of financial empowerment?

Driven by an intense desire to make a tangible difference, I felt a compelling call to step beyond the confines of corporate America. I envisioned a new horizon where I could actively contribute to the empowerment of women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and entrepreneurs of color, helping them to write their own success stories. This vision was not just about offering a seat at the table; it was about constructing a new table altogether, one where inclusivity and support are the foundation stones.

And, as you may recall, in the wake of George Floyd’s tragic murder in 2020, a wave of support surged for Black-owned startups, illuminating a path of hope and opportunity. As I poured over the countless stories of Black entrepreneurs who were not just surviving but thriving—scaling their businesses, breaking barriers, and forging wealth—it sparked a profound realization in me. Despite the exhilaration of such successes, the journey of entrepreneurship is filled with challenges. The stark statistic that only 3% of Black women-owned businesses survive beyond five years loomed large, underscoring the critical need for a solid foundation of knowledgeable and trustworthy advisors to nurture and sustain growth. It was then that I realized the need to launch Avere Wealth.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I specialize in empowering small business owners whose net business income exceeds $250,000, guiding them to save over $30,000 in taxes annually. What distinguishes me is my deep understanding of the profound impact taxes have on wealth accumulation. By minimizing tax liabilities, business owners unlock additional funds, enabling them to make pivotal growth decisions—be it hiring essential staff, expanding their operational space, enhancing employee benefits to attract top talent, or investing in automation for more family time on Fridays.

The elite 3% of business owners are acutely aware that the essence of building generational wealth lies in effectively managing taxes, protecting assets, and building wealth. In the past year, I’ve had the privilege of helping my clients collectively save upwards of $800,000 in taxes, significantly advancing their financial goals.

Looking forward to 2024, I am thrilled to set an ambitious target of doubling their savings to $2,000,000. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness the impact of strategic tax planning on my clients’ businesses and lives, reaffirming my commitment to transforming their financial landscape and helping in their journey towards substantial wealth creation.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Navigating life with a vibrant and somewhat unconventional zest, I enjoy the excitement of the great outdoors. When my closest friends come to town, our agenda is anything but ordinary. We’d venture into the natural beauty of Sweetwater Creek State Park or explore the trails of Red Top Mountain, spending our days basking in the serenity and adventure that only nature can provide. As evening falls, we’d switch gears, glamming up for cocktails at The Garden Room, followed by dinner at LeColonial, embracing the night’s lively spirit.

My circle includes fellow entrepreneurs, individuals who understand the value of blending work with play. In lieu of the typical office or co-working space, we’d set up our workspace at Le Bon Nosh, infusing our workday with a dash of café culture charm. And on those days when we decide to set aside our meal plans and indulge, you’ll find us at Plant Based Pizzeria, savoring a feast of pizza, burgers, and shakes. It’s a testament to the fact that while I might stray from tradition, my life is filled with joy, adventure, and the occasional delightful deviation from the norm.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Embarking on the entrepreneurial journey, I quickly grasped its solitary and demanding nature. The initial year was particularly challenging, pushing me to establish a daily routine for self-care and actively seek out a support network. My mornings begin with physical activity, reading at least ten pages of a book, and reciting affirmations—a ritual that sets me up for success.

To build a supportive community, I committed to attending a minimum of three networking events each month. It was within these gatherings that I encountered incredibly supportive individuals who generously contributed to my journey in unexpected, impactful ways. Whenever I faced obstacles, it seemed as though the universe conspired to introduce me to someone at these events who held the key to my solution.

I am immensely grateful for the collaboration and belief in my vision shared by fellow minority business owners. Their support has been a cornerstone of my success. I wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to a few remarkable individuals: Betsy Hughes of BLH Consulting, who played a crucial role in amplifying my message; Jooliana Krummel of Merit Financial Advisors, for her guidance in crafting an effective marketing plan; O’Nysha Thomas of Pure Onyx, who enhanced my digital footprint; and Patrick Alexander of Balambico, whose exceptional networking skills have not only enriched my journey but also led to this wonderful opportunity to be featured. Their belief in my mission and their invaluable assistance have been pivotal in my journey, and for that, I am eternally thankful.
