Meet Alison Mastrangelo

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Mastrangelo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I think the end goal for my career is always changing since the TV business is always evolving. The dream currently is to make it to a national network telling features and sports stories. I do hope that I am also able to continue to help promote the importance of animal adoption. It is something that I am very passionate about and have been using my platform to help promote adopting and fostering dogs and cats. I currently help feature dogs from Lifeline Animal Project, the Atlanta Humane Society, and other rescues.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a TV sports journalist. I think what sets me apart is besides talking about just the sporting event I really try to find the human interest and; memorable moment in the game or in the week leading up to the game. I am most proud of my World Series, College Football National Championship story-telling and coverage, and most recently being able to do several hours of live continuous TV, reporting on the horrible flooding that occurred in Atlanta during Hurricane Helene.
I worked my way up in the business paying my dues in a small market in Colorado Springs, then moved to mid-size market in Denver, and now I am in a top 10 market in Atlanta. I wouldn’t say it was easy to get to where I am now. You move far away from family, don’t make a lot of money to start out, and miss a lot of holidays and life events, but its help me cherish and appreciate the times I do get to be there.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way. BE YOURSELF. I think out of college there is so much pressure to try to be perfect and at times I would get away from things that make me, ME. Now I am more confident in standing out and doing things that I believe make a great story. The best motto I follow: No one in the world can be you! So just be you!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Atlanta: The Beltline
Piedmont Park
Atlanta Botanical Garden
There are so many great restaurants and coffee shops to list but I love checking out new spots that pop up.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is a tough one because there are so many people that have helped me a long the way. I would say my family is my biggest supporter. They’ve been there for me no matter what and gave me the courage to chase my dream and move across the country straight out of college. My family continues to cheer me on and watch me from whatever city I am currently living in, which is Atlanta right now. Another one I’d love to shout out, an executive producer in my first TV market in Colorado Springs, Shane Crigger. He help guide me as I built the first sports department at FOX21 News. I still keep in touch with him today. And finally, my friend and mentor Jenn Frederick. I learned so much from her in my internship in college, like what makes compelling and entertaining Live TV. I still reach out to her if I have any ideas I want to bounce off of her or just catch up. I am so grateful for everyone mentioned above, as well as others who have helped me along this journey too.
