We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisha Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisha, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind the success of The Black Hair Experience is the hard work and dedication of our team and also the support of our community. Without those things we wouldn’t be able to move less lone grow. The women behind The Black Hair Experience is a small but mighty team that really put themselves into everything they do. Our community, local and beyond has been a pivotal part of our success we thrive off of word of mouth, people sharing, and this outpour of support has helped us get to where we are.

What should our readers know about your business?
So my business is The Black Hair Experience and it was created by myself and Elizabeth Davis. The Black Hair Experience is known for being a selfie museum dedicated to celebrating Black hair and culture but we are so much more than that. We have created community outreach workshops dedicated to pouring into young girls messages of self love and affirmation. We have created a retail spaces that gives space for other Black women owned brands to flourish and grow. We have created a space that celebrates us in every way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay so if my bestie was visiting the city I would first take her to The Black Hair Experience of course! No but seriously, we would have to grab something to eat and depending on the time of day it would either be to Krab Queenz or Negril, mainly because I know my meal is about to give what it needs to. I am a spa kind of girl so we would probably head over there next. Later in the day we would probably go and grab a drink.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
That’s a tough one, it’s so hard to choose one because so many people have played a role in supporting and mentoring me in this process. If I had to start with one I would definitely say my husband. If it was for his support this entire time whether he is keeping me motivated, providing advice, physically building for the business, or holding down the kids for all of my late nights and traveling for the business. He has always been there, always.
