We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Shante and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I’ve taught my child is to never give up. As a parent of a teenager it’s a must that I allow her to express herself creatively and chase her dreams. With so many outside influences constantly trying to pull children in so many ways it’s important to stand firm in what you believe, believe in yourself, and never give up. I teach her that you cannot win if you quit.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been a makeup enthusiast so venturing into permanent makeup was a no brainer for me. After servicing hundreds of clients thus far I am still fascinated behind the transformations I’ve made with some pigment and a tattoo machine. Beside that I enjoy helping people feel good about themselves. I know that if you feel good about your outside that it will transcend inward and you will move more confidently in everything you do. I help bridge the gap between beauty and mental wellness. It’s very fulfilling.
Opening my own studio in 2022 after leaving my corporate job was scary for me. It has not been an easy road at all but I have learned to rely on God wholeheartedly. I would encourage anyone wanting to step out on the entrepreneurial journey to make sure to have a said and solid plan. Know what your goals are and be disciplined in ticking to them. The hardest lesson I’ve learned is that life goes on with or without you. It’s not going to wait on you so get up and move!
I want the world to know that I am only just beginning. Rich Girl Ink will be featured on the big screens soon so lookout!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank a special organization called The New Feminine. These women are my virtual sisters and I would not have transformed into the woman I am today without their support and encouragement. I would also like to thank my parents. They taught me that through the good and bad times, family will always be here.
